Yamato is one of our favorite places in Sanur and probably also most authentic Japanese in the area. However, for some who are not familiar with this simple Japanese joint, don't expect a fancy place with fancy crockery, seatings nor ambiance. Also don't expect 5-star service standards. Yamato is famed by Sanur residents for its superb sashimi, excellent 'non-rice-stuffing' makis... More

I was taken here by Bali Locals, the freshest and best Sashimi and Sushi I have had in Bali. My friends ordered a whole grouper which was served as sashimi, sushi, tempura and in a hotspot - absolutely beautiful food - true Japanese and lovely hospitality. Looking forward to eating there again!

This is a fantastic Japanese place. Once had some of the best tuna belly I'd ever had, unfortunately never as good since but still very good. Slow service but that's fine, it's worth the wait. I must apologize for the smoke in this place, I too used to be a contributor to that. But that's just the way it is... More

Besides the two Indonesian waitresses and ourselves, every single person here was Japanese (one large party, a four-top, a couple at the counter, and three who came in after us.) The food satisfied my itch for sushi- had nigiri and some rolls, all good quality and well prepared. It took a while for the food to arrive, but we didn't... More

I heard about this place from friend, and I enjoyed every time we ate here. All food are fresh. I love the cream croquet and salmon butter very much. The staff and service are good. Definitely will be back again.

Having craved Japanese curry for a week, we thought to give this restaurant on the bypass a go as our regular Ryoshi doesn't offer curry on their menu. When we arrived, no one welcomed us (it is usual practice to be shouted welcome by all staff at other Japanese restaurants we've frequented). We were shown to the last table available,... More

If you want 'authentic' Japanese in Sanur, then take the trouble to find this place on the by-pass. On the left as you come from Kuta, look for the big Mercedes sign and drive into the Mercedes yard and it's a small building on your right. The owners, who do the cooking, are Japanese and don't speak much English and... More
