This very moving café is worth a visit when you are in Agra. It has recently, I understand moved site. It now in in a commercial building in Agra, where folks visit mainly to see the Taj Mahal. Our group visited one evening for a...very nice dinner served by one of the women who have suffered the indignity and trauma of being attacked by having acid thrown over them. Such events were very common, and still occur, in India although legislation is trying to reduce such sad events. You sit at large tables in a group, or there were smaller tables available – we had booked via our guides. The menu is set, and very good Indian traditional food. Payment is by donation to the centre and the cause. Most of our group, in addition to paying via our guides, were moved to buy some merchandise made by the survivors, and make separate donations to support these women who struggle to regain their lives and health. It was set up originally to be a fund raiser and to increase awareness of these poor women who have suffered severely by the physical (and emotional) assault of being doused in acid.More
I took my adult family here after seeing the documentary about this inspiring organization. They were all moved by their warmth, courage and willingness to share their stories with us personally at our table. WOW. They are the 5 Stars of our rating. Stop by...and support these ladies- and you will leave a better person.More
Our small group had a delicious casual lunch here, but the food is the least of my memory of the cafe. Learning about how these women have overcome cruel acid attacks and are making their own way is nothing short of inspiring. There is no...pity here, just admiration for the ability to move on from an experience most of us could never imagine. The servers tee shirts say "My beauty is my smile" and it could not be more true.More
We stopped at this cafe as part of a tour. It is small and clean. We had masala coffee which was very good, but I see others have commented on the great food. But this is not what this cafe is about. The cafe was...set up to support survivors of acid attacks, helping them come out of their homes again. A short PowerPoint presentation spoke to the issue and revealed how young girls and women of all ages have suffered. This may not be for everyone but broadened the experience of our group. We joined together to give the cafe a donation to help them continue their workMore
The cafe is colourful and cosy, and the staff pleasant. A movie was shown about the women who had experienced acid attacks. I've noticed some reviews here complaining about the food, but honestly, the muttar paneer was the best I've had in my life, so...I had a different experience from some others! There was no issue with paying-by-donation -- our donation was accepted with graciousness. Would return here, if I am ever back in Agra.More
A great restaurant. Good food that absolutely does not taste as from a restaurant! True home cooking. The "pay as you like" priceless menu can be scary, but don't worry! And the goods for sale are well priced as well.
This cafe is run by women survivors of acid attacks. They speak openly about the challenges they have faced. I learned alot from these brave women. The food is good and the prices are reasonable.
This is a wonderful place. It’s hard not to slip into patronising “aren’t they brave” but these ladies don’t need this. They are awesome and truly inspirational. This cafe is run by victims of senseless acid attacks. They play their story on a big TV....I cried buckets and one of the lovely survivors came and gave me a big hug, I felt a prat!! they are leading great lives despite the horror and pain they have been through. The reasons for the attacks are truly shocking. There are no prices for the food, you pay from your heart. get yourselves there, you won’t regret it.More
Visited the cafe in Agra and learnt more about the plight and diffculties of women affected by acid attacks in India. The staff working there were friendly and served up a nice meal and tea for us when we visited. They practice a pay as...you wish system here, so please donate more for this wonderful intiative and increase the awareness and publicity of this cafe.More
