Just before we could enter the King's palace, struck the hunger bell, and we hit here. Even though, the owner was having her own meal, she welcomed us as if were here long returning babies :) Real cool place. The freshly squeezed alphonso shake was a delight to have with the oh so homely pasta . Will return forever and... More

Happened to visit the place twice and one time was on birthday. Food is amazing and so is chef/owner. Walking through Fort I came across this restaurant. Open terrace leading to the main kitchen and a small room. You can sit anywhere even right next to the chef and chit-chat with him. The owner is himself a great cook and... More

I was staying in the Fort and there aren't too many options to eat in the evening without walking out into the old city. The 8th of July has a superb location overlooking the main square of the Fort. I was a little disconcerted when I arrived to find I was the first (and only) customer. There's a very varied... More

Located in the fort of jaisalmer, simple place. The owner seems to be pampering but at some point it feels artificial (My personal view). The best taste we had in was paratha. Lassi and other stuff is good but will say the taste is same all over. But paratha are a good try.

This place was great to sit at and people watch over the main square of the fort with breakfast. The mango smoothie and jaisalmer lassi with saffron and almonds were absolutely delicious. I enjoyed a cheeky home comfort of vegemite on toast too. The Indian couple who runs this place have a wonderful nature and enjoy speaking to tourists in... More

This restaurant is within the fort, and run by an admirable woman who is hostess, cook, manager and owner all in one! It's best to go with the food she recommends - we were not disappointed! The Jaisalmeri special parathas were amazing, the vegetable side dishes were strictly okay but clearly made with fresh (organic?) ingredients, so healthy. The apple... More

This little quaint place is bang opposite the fort. It's quiet and lets you be. The lady who runs it Rama, is most interesting and makes it a point to add her personal touch while serving the dishes you ordered for.Herapple pies and ice creams are delish!! She also offers cooking classes to those interested along with stories galore. A... More

I took a cooking class from Rama so I saw how she kept her kitchen and I learned to makes some basic curries/gravies. She is extremely hygienic and this is coming from someone who is quite particular about these things. Everything we had was delicious. She takes such pride in her work and makes everything from scratch. All of her... More

This hotel is situated just opposite the Maharaja palace. Run by an Indian lady Mrs Bhatia - whose husband stays in Sydney. We asked for something quiet authentic - she proposed a juice of Alphonso Mango and freshly made Apple pie with home made vanilla ice-cream. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. (My daughter was throwing tantrums for ice cream and... More

We have been traveling in India for three weeks with our son. He has lived, worked and traveled extensively in in India over the last three years. We think, and our son agrees, that "8 July Restaurant" is the best random restaurant in our travels i.e. fresh, tasty, wonderful personality of Rama the owner, etc. The food is so fresh.... More
