Was there for lunch and found the crockery chipped and damaged which makes my visit a little disappointed as this restaurant is known to be the oldest in Suzhou. Food is average and service is mediocre. Price wise is okay for the food I ordered. Go at your own risk.

Served authentic Suzhou cuisine with quite a few appetisers, famous for the fried fish which is delicious. The braised pork belly and the goose black pudding in soup are also worth trying if you are adventurous enough. Efficient service.

Song He Lou is perhaps the most famous restaurant in Suzhou city, renowned for its Suzhou cuisine. This is a branch at Shan Tang Jie, so the menu is limited compared to its main shop at Guan Qian Jie. It feels like a branch specialized in handling tourists. The waitress was impatient and the service quality was poor. However, we... More

We had dinner there. The food was tasty. That's why the restaurant was so busy. Recommend if you visit Shantang Street.

Make sure you order the signature dishes like the sweet sour fish and a few others. Otherwise you don't need to come to a restaurant like this. Price is ok, slightly high. Since Suzhou is good for street food, if you are traveling on budget and love street food then there is no point sparing money to afford this. But... More

We decided to head out somewhere more fancy on our last night in Suzhou, and ended up in this place partly by accident. Menu had pictures and English descriptions, which were needed as the staff did not really speak any English. Staff was very helpful though and we got understood eventually (don't bother going here if you don't feel comfortable... More

We had dinner here after strolling along Shantang Street. The restaurant is cozy but staff were not so attentive although there were not many people on a Friday evening. According to our local Chinese friend, Suzhou Cuisine tends to be sweet thus one or two dishes were not so acceptable to us. Other than that, the cold starter and hot... More

When showing friends around Suzhou I usually arrive at Shantangjie in time for lunch. The Songhelou provides traditional food with an Attempt at a Suzhou atmosphere. The menu accords to traditional Huaiyang style so it is fit for introducing guests to the culinary delights of Jiangnan food. The main problem is that the restaurant is a remnant of the old... More

We had a great meal here - pork, mushrooms, noodles, etc. Pleasant space and decent service (not sure they speak English but we had a guide). Bought some moon cakes on the way out, which we just ate this week and were delicious.
