This is a huge restaurant and is very popular. We ate there on a Saturday evening and the place was packed but operated a very efficient queuing system which had us seated in 10 mins. Good menu with pictures and reasonable English captions. But staff speak little English and were not inclined to indulge our lack of Chinese. Our bill... More

As Songhelou, this one is also very famous. Unfortunately the food and service can not match the price and the reputation. On the other hand, if you are a tourist and what to have the experience of Suzhou food and do not really care about the price, at least it has the name to be bragged about.

A decent restaurant but not the best in the area. We purchased a lot dishes and shared amongst the group. Several were excellent (broth filled dumpling were outstanding), however, most dishes were just average. Service was also just average despite a private room.

Deyuelou is a typical Suzhou Cuisine restaurant. Service of all Chinese Restaurant in China is with courtesy but not fancy. So for foreigners, come along with a Chinese Speaking Friend is always more enjoyable. If come by yourself, you will have to be more patient. Pricewise is very reasonable. Average per head is 50-60 RMB only for typical Suzhou Cuisine... More

We had asked our taxi driver to take us to the original Deyuelou in the city centre but he advised the one out of town on the lakeside, a vast place! Our first reaction was not very favourable: it seemed that once settled at a table we were ignored! However, it was perhaps a language problem, as the restaurant manager... More

Given this restaurant is highly touted, I gave it a go. Food was tasty but nothing special. Service was fine--only Chinese used--no problem for me. I thought it over-rated and over-priced: matters of taste are not to be disputed, as the old saying goes.

There are two Deyuelou restaurants; we ate at the one out in the suburbs on Lake Jinji with some folks who live in Suzhou. The food was wonderful and presented well. Service was good; efficient and unobtrusive. I DO recommend this place; it's been around for about 100 years according to our hosts. I'm sure it's spendy; they paid the... More

This restaurant is not the place to go if you are less than 4 people and/ or would like to have a nice dinner. It has a canteen like atmosphere. The service was not good and we received dirty glasses. Food was terrible - over cooked and dry roasted chicken even thou the menu said it should be a boiled... More

We intended to go to Song He Lou but it was all reserved for a private party so we came here instead. The good: The squirrel mandarin fish was excellent, one of the best things I ate in China. It was so good that I am not disappointed at all that we didn't get to eat at Song He Lou.... More

We had high expectation as De Yue Lou has had a great reputation. The food was ok. The service was poor. Mostly because we didn't have a private room and this is NOT the kind of restaurant for 2~3 people. But the food quality was disappointing as well. We ate at Song He Lou the day after, the same exact... More
