We dined here because of the excellent reviews and we were not disappointed. Everything was excellent, very kind staff, very good dishes.
The added value is that all fresh foods are washed in mineral water and even the ice is made with mineral water, an aspect not to be overlooked for us tourists.
We took an appetizer and 2 dishes with water and beer for a total of 16 euros.

Event though this is not a dedicated plant-based restaurant, I can wholeheartedly recommend it. The menu has a separate extensive sections for vegetarian food for vegan food. I ate over half a dozen times at Sambo and I never experienced any cross contamination. The dishes always tasted fresh, crunchy, aromatic and looked delightful. The pricing is very reasonable and the interior design with organic materials, local pictures, paintings and other decorative items creates a homely atmosphere. However, what really sets the restaurant apart is the cheerful and attentive staff (the very kind restaurant owner Sokha leads by example) who genuinely cares about each guest being comfortable. They remembered my food preferences, special requests were no problem at all and they even taught me some Khmer. Every time I left with a smile on my face. Hands down my favourite restaurant in Siem Reap!

The service is exquisite. Very clean. The waitresses are very friendly, they speak good English and always try to help you with anything (exchanging money, what dish to choose...). The food is very good and the quantity is good. It is the third time I eat here, and I will repeat whenever I can

Walking into Sambo, we couldn't quite square its high ranking with the reality we encountered. While the service was delightful (the waitstaff radiated genuine warmth and attentiveness, the only reason I don't give only 1 star) everything else fell short of expectations. The location lacked the vibrant atmosphere we'd anticipated, and unfortunately, the food, the true heart of any dining experience, left us thoroughly underwhelmed. I'm not sure if it lacked spices, or salt or whatever, but it was not to our taste at all, the four of us found it pretty dull.

Our food was good but service very slow, for which they did apologise. We were lucky to find Golden Pumpkin in Phnom Penh and then its sister restaurant here in Siem Reap and each time we try another dinner spot, it is compared to GP. This place was not as good in terms of decor, price or welcome. There was no draught beer and so double the price for our drinks. We chose vegetarian versions of our dishes because the meat and shrimp versions were 2 or more dollars than GP. In summary, nice food, particularly my partner's Pad Thai, but we found the ambience and value better elsewhere.

It was recommended by our tuk tuk as a good cheap Cambodian restaurant. We were a little bit disappointed by the menu because the prices were higher than what we expected (dishes are more in the 6$ than in the 3$ as the driver told us). The waiters was very nice so we gave it a go anyways. It was a busy night for them and they were almost full.
When we seated we started to understand it was more of a factory than a restaurant,tables were really close from one another, and it was very very noisy with all the customers.
The food was pretty long to come, probably because it was full. And we both didn't really enjoy the food. My curry looked like a soup and the vegetables were barely cooked. My boyfriend's meat was very fat which ruined the taste of it.
For 1/2$ more we had a much better diner in a place that can't compare just the night before. I think the service is their best quality because the girls who serve are very smiling, but the rest would need some more work.

Had dinner and loved the variety of Khmer dishes. The satay with green mango salad was the perfect starter followed by beef amok. Wonderful flavours with perfect sized portions.
The staff were amazing. The greeting was welcoming and genuine and the waitresses were attentive, polite, smiling whilst not being intrusive. Made for a wonderful dinner and have the Thai sticky rice mango dessert.

Quite frankly this is by far the best tasting and best value restaurant in Siem Reap. We went 3 nights in a row and each experience was amazing. The staff are attentive and the food is delicious and the price is of a great value for money. Just go,…. You won’t be disappointed.

Unbelievable food with hospitality to match. Their Khmer/Thai menu is so good that it took us ages to decide which dish we wanted. Amazing vegetarian/vegan options too. Dinner definitely did not disappoint, so we decided to come back again for the next night. Their amok curries are some of the best around and Sokha is such a warm and lovely host, always stopping for a chat in-between service. Her cooking class is also excellent, where you can quickly learn some traditional Khmer dishes that taste delicious (including the classic amok curry). Highly recommend, Sambo is a must-visit 🙏🏻 such a beautiful family-run restaraunt.

Lida was an incredible and knowledgeable host , she gave us tips on what to do as we just arrived in the country . The meals and the level of spice was perfectly catered for each person even the older picky teenagers want to go back - lots to choose on the menu even western food if that’s what you want. We are definitely going back .

We visited Sambo having read the reviews and it didn’t disappoint! The food was outstanding, full of flavour and good sizes, we had two salads and two mains and three drinks and it came to around $20.
Sikhs spent some time talking to us at the table, her hospitality is second to none and she is so grateful to all her guests for visiting her restaurant!

Many good reviews create big expectations..and causes big disappointment if your personal experience is so much different. I ordered a chicken Lok-Lak, a traditional khmer dish I have eaten many times. Usually a dry (panfried) meat with a pepper-lime sauce on the side to dip the dry meat in.
I received a few slices of boiled chicken in a horrible sweet and sour sauce (out of the bottle?) with an overdone red rice. To make it look more it was placed on top of some slices of raw tomato and onion. The pepper sauce was way too much pepper and no juice. The fried egg just an inch from beeing raw. The worst LokLak ever.
The staff was very friendly and the service from the heart.
Overall not enough to be rated so highly.
Looking at the prices Sambo charges the same as much nicer locations with more comfortable setting. There is nothing fancy about the place so the prices could be a tad lower.

Smiling and attentive service
The satay skewers are not with peanut sauce as usual but are nonetheless very good. The marinated chicken is just cooked so remains soft.
We then chose the Amok seafood, served in a sewn leaf in the shape of a bowl (banana tree I think). Very good
A Khmer red curry with pork finished our meal. Also excellent.
The passion fruit smoothie was a success. Can be a bit expensive (3USD) compared to other places.

The food here is absolutely delicious. I have beef Lok Lak for dinner and second time just for their Nom Akor for dessert as recommended by the owner Sokhla. She is very friendly and welcoming It is one of the best restaurants I have been during my Siem Reap trip with such a lovely atmosphere

We had a delicious meal here! Both the food and drinks are delicious, fresh and well prepared, tasty. In addition, the staff is very friendly, hospitable and helpful! When we accidentally paid too much and left (the riel took some getting used to for us) they kept the money aside and gave it back to us as soon as they saw us walking past the next day.
We never eat in the same restaurant more than once on holiday, but we went to Sambo three times in a few days.
Finally, the restaurant looks beautiful and atmospheric and nice music is played in the background.
