I'm a Basque (Western European) expat who has spent quite a lot of time in this city. I must admit that I'm a fan of Paragraph. It's yhe very first café of this style in Brest. The oldest one is vulitsa Sabjetskaja, which is kind...of modern (and a bit psychodelic) in the very hear of the city. The new one is by the Central Market (Kalkhozny Rynok), about 10-15min from the Central Railway Station. This last one is bigger than the old one, has a bit simpler decoration but it is definitely the most bohemiam place in the city! There are poetry-evenings (in various languages, incluidng English), accoustic concerts of begining bands, etc... which you can listen for free. There's even a big piano, which can be played by anyone (preferabily if you are tallented).
Both 'Paragraphs' have a combination of local, with Western-style cafés. I am not a coffee person, so I can't speak about its quality, but the desserts are definitely good! There are also cool board games such as "Jungle Speed" or "Jenga" (which as far as I am aware, there are not in any other cafés in Brest, except for the recently closed "Coffee Time"). Again, I'm not a coffee drinker myself, but in general, the price of drinks and sweets is pretty much the same as in other cafés (even the tackiest ones are not necesarily cheaper). So either if you are for a stopover in Brest, or you are spending some days in the city, you should go to Paragraph, I don't think you'll regret it.More
