Firstly this restaurant is stunning, as beautiful a setting as you will see. The service is impeccable. Cocktails were good and a bottle of (indifferent) Spanish wine can be had for $25. First wine for two weeks in the region! Sadly we felt slightly let...down by some of the food. The starters of pork balls and river weed was great. Try the river weed, like seaweed as you would imagine and tasty. Sadly the mains were disappointing. The slow cooked duck was chewy and flaccid skinned. I had imagined slow cooked meant falling apart. The accompanying honey sauce was good but there was not much else to add to the dish. The Mekong steamed fish in itself was nice accompanied by a small dish of good tomato sauce and a bland aubergine sauce. The accompanying was a very dull ( to us anyway) side of plain steamed broccoli, cauliflower! and beans, with no sauce or other redeeming features. Maybe we made poor choices, but, we had been looking forward to eating here for sometime and although it is just lovely to eat in that setting given we paid literally 3x the cost of the next most expensive meal in Laos were were a little disappointed. As a PS they played late seventies western music which was not good in the late seventies. Surely some Classical Loas would suit that wonderful setting.More
