Went to The Apsara restaurant last night. Never a let down with modern menu and some Lao classics. Situated within a C1960,s boutique hotel on the banks of the Nam Kahn river within the UNESCO Historic Peninsula. Internal and terrace seating. Possible the large Chinese writing, very evident from the street when you walk past puts some potential customers off.... More

We stopped by for dinner as it was recommended by a Friend and he was right. The food was great and service exceptional. We had the warm mushroom salad and green salad both were delicious. We also had the deep fried dish in tamarind sauce and it was sublime. The fish was so big that it was more than adequate... More

I had dinner at this restaurant last night and it was absolutely delicious with top rate service. I had the beautiful fried Mekong river weed with a lychee and lime cocktail followed by twice cooked duck (substantial portion) and a gorgeous green papaya salad with fresh mint, herbs, lime, peanuts, yellow cherry tomato and fresh beans - it was all... Started with Laos miang pla. Great flavours. Then had deep fried (large) mud fish - excellent, eggplant salad - equally good, creative use of local produce and papaya salad with greens - excellent too. Good flavours, well presented. Thoroughly recommended. Pleasant ambiance.

The Hotel Manager Christopher made several recommendations for our lunch. These turned out to be excellent selections. We were going to get the Lao set menu. But his choices were great.

We stayed 3 nights and loved everything about the hotel. Location is perfect - just off the Main Street, service attentive but not overwhelming, ambience, food, elegant decor. Serious cocktails - ask for the special negroni... Brilliant coffee Lao to accompany the a la carte breakfast accompanied by fresh baguettes with homemade banana jam. We stayed Ina downstairs room which... More

Had a very lovely dinner here - out of the 3 dinners we had, this was probably the best meal. Place was very quiet though - there were only 2 tables of guests. Slow cooked buffalo cheeks are a winner as was the duck. Service was relatively good.

We actually wanted to go to the Rosella Fusion which was closed that evening unfortunately so we decided to go to the Apsara. We ordered several Lao dishes (twice cooked duck, fish soup, sticky rice, green vegetables with peanuts and lime sauce) which were all very, very delicious! As people in Luang Prabang seem to like cocktails, we also had... More

Quiet place next to Tamarind. We had buffalo cheek stew and a plate with smoked aubergine. Amazing. Next visit we had a huge fish from the Mekong river fit for two. Served with fresh herbs. It had a delicious crispy skin. Waiter served it on our plates but I stopped him because I like eating food with my hands (as... More
