Very welcoming and friendly staff and warm atmosphere. We had oven baked hind quarter of deer and wild game with goose liver. The waiter was super helpful and flexible in suggesting options to minimise the number of side dishes ordered.
The food was succulent, tender and tasted great. I'll visit again before I leave.

I am a huge fan of Bulgarian cousin. Bulgarians cook veggies excellent, meat as well, fish ain't bad but rice offf, this is difficult. I have been tried around 20 places in Bulgaria and the result has always been disappointing but then I went to Staria Chinar and the risotto blew my mind. Finally, a place where to eat a good risotto in Varna. Fully recommended. The other dishes are also nice. For instance, the pizza they make is very special, their dough is very unique as well as the oven where they cook it. If you are not a rice person, try the calzone, you will not let you down!

We had a wonderful diner in this cute little restaurant.
The meat is juicy , delicious and perfectly cooked over fire.
The Chef is a true artist.
The waiter is nice and super friendly, very professional.
We really enjoyed discovering new dishes and were not disappointed

Food was breath taking and the service was beyond our imagination.
Alexander the Great (our waiter) was a highly distinguished gentleman and made this evening a true blessing.
Not only was he fluent in English he was also remarkably handsome.
We loved it. 10/10

I ordered something from the menu ( I showed it in the menu ) he brought me my order with cheese on it. First time was perfect looking dish.
Second time where big chunks of vegetables not well cooked - delicious sauce. ( I took the picture after I tasted it ). I didn’t pay for it. The biggest problem for me was my night was not enjoyable and I end up eating chips ( the side dish )
My boyfriend ordered pork tenderloin with goose liver ( they were out of beef ) and he sais his food was delicious

Luckily for us we stayed at Hotel Royal 1905 right across the street from "Staria Chinar", therefore it became our favorite place for dinners. The first night not having a reservation, we were shown inside and we did not regret it for a moment. The old house was chilly and beautifully decorated. It was like a museum or better dining out in the early 1900s. The walls are hung with photos and lots of objects from the same era too.
The food was delicious, highly appreciated that there were choices also for people who eat gluten free or vegan.
The wine list contains both Bulgarian and European wines, all at reasonable prices.
Staff speak English quite well, so no problems in this respect either. There is a second much bigger restaurant located in the vicinity of Black Sea Hotel in the pedestrian area, but haven't been there.
Warmly recommend a visit.

The food was absolutey amazing. I can’t recommend this place enough. We had starters and 4 main dishes, all of them extremely fresh and tasty.
Our waiter Aleksander was very nice. He speaks very good English and even recommended us a great local wine from Varna. Very professional and friendly guy.
We would definitely return one day. ❤️

First visit to Bulgaria and Varna from the United States. Happen to come across this place on the way back to my hotel. Manager greeted me warmly at the door, offered to provide an English menu (most menus are in Bulgarian), proceeded to have me nicely tucked and seated at the bar as the restaurant was packed. Offered a selection of drinks, specifying the local Bulgarian selection, very professional.
Ordered a traditional entrée of the Roasted Lamb, came promptly. Looked and tasted delicious. Generous portion size (no space for dessert), just a very local, unique and wonderful experience. The level of service, attentiveness and cleanliness is second to none. Side note, they take credit cards here, in addition to cash (not all restaurants do).
Don’t just take my word for it- try it out for yourself. Highly recommend making a reservation or coming in early for groups with families, as this place is packed. And maybe… just order some dessert.. to go 😉😉😉

In the beginning, it worked well. We had booked in advance and were assigned to a nice table. We ordered 2 starters (the mixed plate and a Chopska salad) with some Rakija and 2 mains with a bottle of Red. Perfect.
The starters came after 5-10 minutes, and with that the issues started. The waiter said he could now bring the toasted bread (that belonged to the mixed plate), but the mains were also ready. What?!? We made it clear that we want to have our starters before the mains. Ok, the bread came but they then brought the main while we were still working on the starters (we aren't slow eaters btw). We declined.
Once we were ready for the mains, the inevitable happened. The meat with chips was cold. We refused to eat it. They refried it somehow, which made it warm again but also dry. A total loss.
And the worst thing: they then treated us as if it was our fault. No try to talk, they even sent another waiter to remove the dishes. Paid the bill and no good-bye.
How can it be that you have starters and main dishes on the menu and don’t know that this implies a sequence?

The food and the service were perfect! We had mussels in wine broth , seabass, ice cream and creme caramel for dessert. Everything was very good cooked, with taste, art and design. We strongly recommend the restaurant to everyone and we will definitely come back! A special mention for Hristo - he was very kind and helped us with the menu. See you next time!

Amazing staff to say the least. We randomly passed by with my mother and we thought it looked like a cozy yet classy place to eat at. The people who worked there were all friendly and took a warm contact right away. Service was helpful, fun and easy going. We ended up staying until closing time. The food was very delicious and good portions aswell, and we got recommendations about both food and drinks! We asked about their home made caviar and they told us that they have a shop where they sell what they have at the restaurant just a few hundred meters away from the restaurant. (I highly recommend their home made tarama caviar, SO DAMN GOOD)

Restaurant is close to the center, the serving is very good, Daniel who served us was very polite and serviable, a really nice guy. The meal was delicious and very well cooked, we orded some chicken tenderloise with porcini mushroom saune and red wine and pork neck steak with grilled vegetables, and for desert some chocolate mouse with ice cream which i can say it's like a lava cake.
I recomand it !

Staria Chinar, a Bulgarian restaurant, surpassed all expectations with its remarkable offerings. The perfectly cooked lamb dish was a standout, complemented by outstanding grilled vegetables. We nearly left before trying the homemade halva ice cream. The charming outdoor ambiance added a delightful touch to the dining experience. Staria Chinar is a typical Bulgarian restaurant. Go to the original venue in Preslav street and get a table on the first floor. Service is amazing, very friendly and they know how to guide you through the vast menu.
We had beef tongue with a very lovely buttery sauce, grilled pork’s neck with an amazing sauce on the side, and roasted lamb’s neck. The food was amazing. Very well prepared, lots of flavour, and there's amazing wines on the wine list.
The interior is cozy with a laid back atmosphere. We enjoyed our time here.
A very awesome and memorable experience.

Excellent and friendly restraint. Great location next to navy HQ. Nice garden. Everyone liked their food and in my case the catch of the day (small fish) was just great. It is clear that it is catch of the day, and not yesterday.
All in all, a must visit in Varna.
