Totally overrated. It started with having to ask 3 different times for lemons for our water. The bread service was an afterthought delivered just before the main course. The crab and lobster black pepper cavatelli was served cold with a tiny piece of lobster, morsels...of crab, no pepper and cheese which wasn't on the menu. It tasted like leftover mac and cheese from a cafeteria. Although they took it off the bill, we would have preferred a desirable dinner. The strip steak was tasty but tough which was especially difficult to navigate since no steak knife was provided. The service was courteous but certainly not attentive. Although we were staying in the 5 star hotel where this restaurant is located, we should have gone to dinner in town, as originally planned.More

Topper's is located at The Wauwinet, a historic Nantucket Island hotel on a beautiful bay. The scenery is drop dead gorgeous with spacious lawn and chairs that look directly out to the water. It has a very classy but relaxed deck from which to serve...it's patrons outdoors and on such a beautiful day as our visit...the deck is where we headed! The servers are friendly, the restaurant is spotless.. and the food, oh....the food is wonderful. A few of us chose the Lobster Roll, absolutely loaded with this tasty crustacean. There were Topper's Burgers for some in our party...looked great and smiles on the faces. Try the Old Bay Fries...so delicious! The Retsyo Oysters were a wonderful addition to the table as well, cold & fresh as they should be. We ordered a selection of desserts at the end which also were very good. My favorite, the Maracaibo Chocolate Parfait! This is a must-go if you are on Nantucket. I'm sure dinner would be amazing...but after a short visit to the beach, it made our day and we rated it the BEST brunch on our Nantucket visit!More

Dined there last night. Very disappointed. Female host was EXTREMELY unfriendly and rude which was our first shock of the night. She didn’t even say hello and gestured us to our table with her hand!?! Our server was very nice, personable and professional. The food...was not well executed at all. I make much better gnocchi at home! Soufflé for dessert was the only success at our table. By far the worst meal of our entire trip!More

The food is great. The chef is on point with his dishes. But the service is lacking. The staff doesn’t pay attention to customers. The hostess was pretty rude to us when we asked to be seated for breakfast. Literally shoved the menus on the...table and left. We waited at least 20 min on our first day of our stay to get a 2nd cup of coffee after signaling hoping to catch someone’s attention. The prices are outrageous. These prices are to be charged for impeccable food and service. There is a void for the impeccable we expected. Toppers has much to work on.More

Very disappointing. Had high hopes for a great meal. Been to Nantucket every summer for years. Never had a bad meal on the island until tonight. Would not recommend and would not go back. Extremely over rated!

We spent a lovely weekend at the Wauwinet and enjoyed Topper’s meals several times. The best of these was the amazing dinner we had! I will be dreaming about the house made seafood pasta. We also really enjoyed the chicken schnitzel and the cheese board....I appreciated the mocktails addition to the cocktails list. The service was top notch every time. We will definitely be back!More

We have dined here in the past. The food and location are top notch as is the service. This is a beautiful hotel and restaurant. We ate outdoors for lunch. We shared a beet salad and Sword fish schnitzel with a horseradish dressing with cucumbers...and potatoes. We had a leisurely lunch on a beautiful day. Great ambiance in a first class hotel and location. It is pricey. There is lots of self parking.More

This place offers dinner with a view on steroids. Topper’s is without a doubt the best restaurant on the island. The service is outstanding. Every meal I’ve had including tonight’s with my family is epic and if you can score a spot on the boat...from the White Elephant to the restaurant, that’s the best beginning to what will inevitably be a night you’ll never forget for all the right reasons.More

This is a pre-COVID experience in 2019. We booked an early dinner at Topper's as a special treat for our mid-week summer visit to Nantucket with my in-laws. This jaunt to Nantucket was part of a longer trip they were making to visit my husband...and I here in New England. They had never been to Nantucket, and it had been over 10 years since they had visited the Northeast; so they had a lot on their bucket list for this trip. Topper's checked off a lot of the boxes. Due to west coast jet lag & blood sugar concerns, we reserved a table for the quintessential early-bird hour (we were seated pretty much right when they opened for dinner service in the dining room). On top of that, it was a Wednesday night, not exactly the height of the week or the tourist season. As such, we were the only indoor guests for most of our meal and the service team that waited on our part of 4, was easily at least 10! It was a little disconcerting - like being on stage... But the staff was not overly obtrusive - was very attentive and skilled. The meals are spendy, but the location is iconic - the food presentation is exceptional, and the experience so memorable. It's unabashedly FINE DINING, especially in the dining room. The outdoor seating area was much less grandly adorned - but looks out onto a luscious lawn and the majestic Nantucket coast. The dining room has so much to look at - beautiful elegant decor - an updated and luxe coastal New England vibe for sure. The menu is also decidedly influenced by New England / seasonal and local ingredients. When we visited we found the menu to have a great variety of creative options from which to choose for every course - with classic French and healthier options as well. As you might expect for a classic Nantucket dining experience, the preparations of lobster and seafood are superb. My husband will joyously eat duck in any and all forms, so he was well taken care of in that respect with a foie gras terrine and roasted duck entree. Bread service was special - I tried almost the full variety of freshly made breads on offer. Topper's makes for an impressive traditional fine dining experience. Well worth the visit and expense in my opinion. And if you happen to be seeking a bit of quiet and solitude when Nantucket is feeling a bit crowded - I recommend an early seating time on a Wednesday :-)More

We arrived early for our dinner and were directed to the lawn for drinks. The lawn setting was magical and relaxing. We had heard great things about the restaurant so we were excited to try the food. Overall we were quite disappointed:( The Dining area...was lovely, but the service was super poor. The restaurant was clearly understaffed. I had to ask several times for water and would go 10-15 minutes until I would see the waiter again. The endive salad was almost inedible, the crab and lobster cakes were terribly fishy, and my pork lacked in flavor. My wife loved her lobster pasta and the flourless chocolate cake was good. The sunset following dinner was worth eh drive out to the Wauwinet, but the food was not:(More

Hi Ira, I suggest that you dress in business casual. A female could definitely get away with dark (dressy) jeans and a nice top. For dinner, I suggest khakis and a button down for a male with nice shoes (no jacket... More
