I gave this restaurant 4 stars only because of the disappointing service. In terms of food quality, it was excellent. The menu has adapted Peruvian flavors and ingredients to typical Japanese cuisine and it's excellent! It is known as one of the best Japanese restaurants in Lima, a bit on the pricey side but well worth it. We ordered Maki... More

I love japanese food and when it comes to it I'm particularly demanding. Although Matsuei handles a rather expensive menu, the experience has no match. Good old fashioned japanese cuisine without many pretentious fusion twists. My favourite by far.

This japanese restaurant never get's out of fashion, it is allways elegant and good never disapoints: do not skipe dessert! The ice cream tempura that they offer is incredible!

Good food, excelent salmon, the cocktails were small with full price, don't mind paying but give me a full glass.

If you want bona fide Japanese-Japanese food, this is the best place I know in Lima. Expensive and not especially innovative, but definitely fits the bill if that is truly what you are seeking. But then, why come to Lima for that? A city which one listing gives as having 2 of the top 20 restaurants in the whole world?... More

Good sushi, fresh, english spoken , nice place , safe. Have tried better sushi for sure, for way less money than here. It is , from my point of view and the city where is located, very expensive. This is not Tokyo o Seattle. However, you cant fail at Matsuei. I

Peru is known for its fresh and delicious fishery, due to the colision of 2 currents near Lima. Matsuei is a small and quiet restaurant that you go to eat one of the best japanese food.It may not be the most romantic place but the taste compensates for that. Try the asevichado - A maki dipped in sort of leche... More

Must say that I had here probably the best Miso soup ever... birthplace of world renowned NOBU's Peruvian-Japanese fusion... after working in Japan at Matsue chef Nobu Matsushita moved to Peru were adapted Peruvian ingredients and dishes to his menu... later on he moved to Los Angeles... became partners with Robert De Niro... started NOBU... and the rest is history...

Probably the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Lima. The food is very good, very Japanese with a touch of Peru, as all the international restaurants in Lima. They have all the variety, all at very good quality and nicely decorated. The restaurant is in a little house with a somewhat Japanese interior, which also helps to create an authentic atmosphere.... Love Matsuei, over the years it has managed to stay as the best sushi spot in lima. Favorites are the Alessio, tartar maki, and when toro is available have it, its a steal! The decor is the only thing that is a bit depressing....
