I've been to Lima many times and I had the opportunity of exploring the food scene quite a bit over the years and I have to say, i've never been disappointed until now but Malabar is an epic failure on so many levels. I was...there with friends a few months ago and I honestly i can't recall experiencing this level of service incompetence at a highly rated restaurant ever. No the restaurant wasn't particularly crowded being at most at half capacity but everything took forever. 45min for Pisco Sours, 90min for appetizers and so on. There was never any explanation provided for why things were taking so long, the barman barely seemed busy yet everything took forever. When the food finally came, it wasn't great. Lacking flavours, bland presentation, etc. This restaurant really has no places being on the various lists its on and unless there's some dramatic changes should be outright avoided. I would absolutely never go back.More

Excellent service, beautiful combination of flavors and great wine tasting! Absolutely recommended, lovely and memorable experience. We had the five course menu, totally recommended. The duck was from another planet, tasteful and incredible sauce combination.

I was really surprised to read so many negative reviews about malabar and I feel compelled to write one after a very good experience there. I loved the atmosphere and service, I thought dishes were really tasty and interesting, you can tell there's hard work...and research behind every one of them. I'll go again and definitely recommend it to those interested in fine dining in Lima.More

We were seated promptly for our 7pm reservation. The staff made sure to confirm dietary restrictions and allergies. The food was excellent, with a variety of interesting options, and the service was great!

I too had booked New Year's Eve @ Malabar, and I too paid my deposit in advance, showed up just before 9 and experienced the same "sh*t show" described below. Truly there are no words to describe the experience. Bar filled with people from around...the world waiting for their 9 PM reservation while we watched people on their second course from the 7 PM seating. Unclear when or how any of us would be seated. Absolutely NO explanation, apology, communication from anyone working at the restaurant except for one undistinguished cocktail. (and certainly no snacks..my husband went next door to buy corn nuts at Tambo) Unlike the other diners posting here, however, we left at 945. Tried to find a snack at a hotel bar and then made our way back to our hotel 6 miles away where fortunately they found us a table so we did eat a lovely New Years Eve meal with champagne, just not at Malabar. I cannot understand how this restaurant is on a top anything list, let alone is in business. I would not eat here again for free but I do hope that they refund my deposit since i had nothing to eat.More

We visited this top 50 Latin American restaurant with great expectations. Over the past five years we have visited 30 of the top 50 great restaurants one to five times depending on the country. We have strong expectations based on our experiences. Malabar failed in...all ways. First the wine list was quite limited. The first three reds we ordered were out of stock so we ended up their best of what was left and it was thin and did not live up to either ours or the sommeliers expectations. Second, the bread course had some interesting butters-one combined with some Amazonia fruit was interesting and unique. Then of the starters, appetizers and entrees, only one truly excelled and one was ok. The ceviche appetizers was a true winner in presentation and flavors and we thought this was a good as we’ve had in the past decade. One octopus appetizer was interesting and prepared well and the others were not. The duck entrée and the others did not live up to any billing. The crust on the Margret was so hard you could not eat it and the sauces were ordinary but quite heavy. The dessert courses [four options] were unavailable despite our being one of three groups that entered when Malabar opened. The service began very well but we waited 45 minutes to order dessert and finally 25 minutes later we had to go to the bar and threated to leave after our ordered courses were unavailable and we had asked for the check. Then within 5 minutes we got the check and left. I will recommend to no one in my group that comes to lima to go here and will never return.More

One of the worst dining experiences i’ve ever had. The food was ok and the service was terrible. We booked this place based on the Latin America Top 50 list. Do not go. Save your money. There are lots of other much better retaurants that...are far cheaper. The food is supposed to be from the Amazon. Not sure where pigeon and scallops are in the Amazon. Guess i’ll be doing some research. The only good that came out of it was there were 2 other couples who were seated next to us and were having an equally bad time. We all became friends over how laughable the place is. And it was the only redeeming point of the night. I’m obviously disappointed and wish I could have a refund.More

I wouldn’t even know where to start considering the giant mess we experienced last night for New Years Eve so I will just state facts : - Arrived at 9pm for a booking at 9pm - Dozens of clients packed at the bar waiting to...be seated with a manager completely overwhelmed while many tables were empty - Seated at 10:30pm after being on the manager’s back - after multiple complaints, clients started leaving - we sticked as at 10:30 pm on 31 dec there are not that many options - We were not offered the NYE menu (waiter recommended against saying kitchens had problem managing) - The menu shown was an extract of the normal menu so nothing special for NYE - The waiter ordered bread for us which never got to our table but was still charged - The team expedited our meal un less than 45 minutes - « amuse bouche » were served with starters and our mains were already waiting before we had finished our starters - food was ok but were starving after our mains (no sides) - left the restaurant at 23:10 with no desert and after having had to correct the bill for wrongful charge (over 400 soles for this scam) Felt like we were watching an episode of Hells Kitchen except that there was no Gordon Ramsay nor any chef to lead... Our neighbours who took the 7 course menu with wine pairing got their pairing for the main dish alongside their... desert If you cant run a restaurant, dont openMore

The worse restaurant I have been in my life with the most terrible unprofessional service. The worse place with the worse service. We have booked a new year dinner for 4 people in September 2019 ( 4 months in advance). The restaurant was literally spamming...me with the requests to confirm the attendance and I had to confirm it 5 times and also had to pay 60 USD deposit. We have arrived at 8.30PM to enjoy a drink before our dinner at 9PM. We only got our table at 11pm !!!!!!! when we were ready to leave. All this time there was no any proactive communication, no one came to us to apologize/explain the situation, we had to literally run after the staff to get information/order a drink. So the first dinner dish was served at 11pm. Very average food plus in the end we got a bill which didn’t include our prepayment, it was either a cheating intend or again complete unprofessionalism. There are plenty of better places in Lima, better go there and don’t spend your time and money on this one.More
