We went to La Palomina because we heard two locals in the city center talking about it. They said it was really good so we really wanted to try. We arrived and the whole restaurant was full with a nice busy atmosphere: nearly no tourist, all locals - great! We had "el triple": a plate filled with typical dishes from... More

Great traditional restaurant called a Picanteria. Picanteria apparently translates to something like "pick anything or everything from the menu for a combo plate". Or you can order just one item off the menu. Beware of portion size throughout Peru. Servings are generous here. The food was soooo delicious!!! Pictures are of a Picanteria plate and the fabulous shrimp soup. Dessert... More

We went into this restaurant by mistake as we were in fact looking for the Nueva Palomino (which is just 2 doors from this one in a perpendicular to the main road) but no regrets! They are both owned by the same people, but this one is more targeted to local folk hence a more rustic feel to it which... More

Had an outstanding meal including rocotto relellno, tripe, scalloped potatoes, pork ribs, washed down with traditional chicha. Huge portions, excellent quality. Lots of locals but still accessible for more timid gringos.

Good place, food is ok, If you are looking for a real "picanteria" this is the option the service is fine and daily there are lots of tourist. We ate a fried guinea pig and the local fermented chicha. Everything was awesome.

Great value with an extensive list of typical delicious Arequipa dishes at a great value, the rocoto relleno is amazing as well as the palomino specials.

La Palomino is the perfect example of a traditional Picanteria. There is nothing fancy about the place, but the food it authentic and the crowd is all local. If you want a more upscale lunch, try the Nueva Palomina next door.

My mother and my partner ated the fried cuy. I had the plato americano, which was a sampler as well as a glass [huge one!] of the local fermented chicha. Awesome food and price. A must. The nueva palomino is next to this one but I liked this one better. One thing, they dont take credit cards.
