Flip flops are not allowed for men, only women can use them. I have been many times to the restaurant and I have had a quite good experience but yesterday with 30 Celsius/ 86 Fahrenheit degrees at 7 pm I wore jeans, a long sleeve...shirt and a pair of sandals. I was rejected because saldas are only allowed for women. I understand that the owner is trying to avoid people wearing “beach outfits” but this is gender discrimination and inequality.More

Restaurant was recommended by our hotel and we were not disappointed. It is a large restaurant with seating both inside and out, very smart interior decor and furniture, same with outside. Started meal with a shared salmon ceviche, reall good and plenty enough for us...two! For mains we had beef strogonoff, fillet beef in delivious sauce with rice 11/10 - it was that good! I had a goats cheese tortellini in a garlic and coriander jus - again exceptional. Full but must have a dessert! I tried the blackcurrant sorbet in cassis - divine, while the wife had a chocolate mousse, again really nice. Service excellent, food superb, great ambience .... i could go on, but ... just go and try it.More

when we arrived i was given a disparaging glance up and down because i was in shorts. so ! my advice is to wear long pants no matter if it is 40 deg in the water bag. outside of this ...i would highly recommend the...food, and the wait staff . even before our entree was finished, the mains was about to be served. irritating for some but to me, highly proficient. a little spanish is a helpful, and even though i am a complete novice, i was able to bumble through. i ordered a bottle of ten year old syrah and for the price i thought it a bargain. my duck main was better than i have ever ordered anywhere. its a must visit..and i would suggest around 7.30pm before it fills up.More

Glad we went, it was very good. Not exceptional, but definitely very good. Excellent staff and very well prepared food. It’s not a terribly relaxed experience as the service is very swift, orders entered into hand held devices, and so on, but we really did...enjoy the high quality food. And for anyone from Europe, a real bargain. This our 4th trip to Santiago in recent years and we will go to Baco again next timeMore

I have been a costumer of this restaurant a couple of time and recommended. I visited a couple of days ago with a new costumer from The Netherlands and I was asked to change my shoes to dine outside. Very dissapointed, from now on I...Will recomend other places of the same quality food but with better service.More

Our concierge also recommended that we try this restaurant and they were so right! We were able to walk and get a lovely table inside looking at outside. Though the wait staff did not speak English, we managed to order starters, a salad to split...and 2 wonderful beef dinners--the filet and the beef stroganoff. The wine list was nice and not too expensive--in fact we were amazed at the total cost of our dinner! Steak cooked perfectly, interesting sides and nice atmosphere. We werer thrilled with our first night dinner and know you will be too.More

This restaurant was recommended to us by the concierge at our local hotel. We are so happy to have taken his advice. Its a lively atmosphere with a very wide selection of wines. There is a large courtyard as well giving you an option to...dine either inside or outside. Each wine glass comes with a written sleeve with the name of the wine and region to help keep track of the types of wine you choose. As much as its a wine bar, the food was delicious. Overall, a lovely evening.More

I discovered Baco over 5 years ago when I came to Santiago to visit my son and daughter in law who had recently moved here. I fell in love with the restaurant for its excellent food and service and recommended it to my family. They...are now frequent customers and I go there at least twice a year when I come to visit. Today we had a very unfortunate experience. A Sunday afternoon, the outside temperature was 30 degrees Celsius, my daughter in law and I were both wearing summer dresses and flip flops, it turns out there is a dress code that does not allow such footwear so we were denied entry. What irritated me tremendously was that there were other women there wearing flip flops, trainers and other very informal footwear. The hostess offered to lend us shoes which I did not find to be an acceptable solution. It turns out that the owner, Frédérix Le Baux, is very sensitive about people’s beauty and education but he is forgiving to those whom he considers to have not received the same upbringing as he did (but they won’t be allowed access) Was it the flip flops? Were we not considered attractive enough? Did we look uneducated? We will never know as none of us has any intention of ever returning. Fortunately there are many excellent restaurants in Santiago where you can have a magnificent meal and be treated with respect. P.S. I understand dress code but this was outright discrimination.More

We were staying for two days at the new AC Hotel in the Costanero Center. Baco is a very convenient 10-minute walk from there. We loved the ambience, food and service. Great fish dishes at reasonable prices by our U.S. standards. We particularly enjoyed the...grilled octopus.More
