About
Our history After the agrarian reform of the 60s, the rural world began to emigrate towards urban centers, from this a unique cuisine emerged that to mark a particular attention in the capital for the worker of the land, effort and tradition. In 1962, in honor of the grandfather of Don Miguel Hormazábal, the place was baptized as "Restaurant San Miguel", who soon after renamed it as the classic "Palacio del Poroto Con Rienda", a dish most requested by customers. Maintaining the tradition and its roots, the place would in a few years become the favorite place of the peasant families and visitors of the time. Decades later, he is considered a must-see in Chilean cuisine, whose identity arose from such a special love for cooking, that the legend says that “One day Don Miguel began to sing while cooking, and it is believed that this is the mystical ingredient of this traditional restaurant ”.

This place is amazing. Proper Chilean food. I am very happy that we found this. If you eat here you will only need one meal that day.

The Palacio del Poroto con Riendas is a local tip. I was there last week with friends for the first time and was absolutely surprised of the nice flavor of normal Chilean dishes. Along with them the meat were very good and we eat everything, despites the size of the dishes were big! We made space to eat also desserts. Summarizing: The location is not easy to find in a workers and factories neighborhood, but it is a place you MUST visit, if you like local cuisine. It is not the fine cuisine but the everyday meals made with love and flavor. Moreover, the prices are low compared with all other "picadas" (secret tips) I have visited in the last time!

Not many options for a veggie like me, but the waiter offered me porotos with mazamorra that "doesn't have any meat in it". It was nice but...I felt a strange meat flavour I couldn't explain...until I found 2 tiny pieces of meat inside. I think there were more but I just swallowed them without realising. Yuk!

Hello, we have only 2 vegetarian dishes, the beans are cooked with boiled eggs to give more flavor and some pork rinds. For what option of vegetarian beans we do not have :( we hope to work on it because every day there are more people with that option. We appreciate your comment. Happy day wishes you El Palacio del Poroto.

Start with the basic porotos con rienda (beans with noodles); these are cooked in an excellent sauce that is not overly salted. You can add various things like a pork cutlet, longaniza (Chilean sausage fizzy with salt and nitrates) and ribs to the basic version, but I actually think they detract from it. Perhaps between two, one could get it with something and one without, and share. It's a large amount of food. The salad options are of the half-hearted unreconstructed, or even unconstructed, Chilean variety, and should be avoided. The wine and beer list is poor, but the pipeño (a rough wine - more refined and less sweet than chicha, and with a tolerable level of bad alcohols) - is great by the glass. This pipeño is also found in their terremoto; many terremotos instantaneously bring on a hangover, and this one didn't. Still, pineapple ice-cream and pipeño is not the smartest cocktail idea. Had to wait for a table Saturday lunch (there's a botillería a few hundred metres north if you want to drink on the street). It's basic stuff, but they've nailed it, and the prices are more than fair. There is also great management of the waiters - a really competent operation.

This was probably my favorite traditional Chilean meal while in Chile. In fact I ordered chorianna again while at the airport leaving but it wasn't half as good as it was at El Palacio del Poroto con Rienda. We had a large group that ate there so we chose only between two dishes. I'm glad I picked the one I did - so yummy!

We went with my family to have lunch at this restaurant and the truth is that the food was spectacular, the corn cakes with a very soft and very filling paste. Pancho villa, a very tasty classic. Unfortunately, the dessert was not very fresh, we ordered mote con huesillo and it left a lot to be desired since it was tasteless and the mote seemed a little stale. Nothing to say about the service since the waiter was very friendly and attended to us in a very cheerful manner, which makes the experience 100% better. On the other hand, if you come in a large group and at least half of the group is not there, they do not let you pass until the rest arrive, so we had to wait at the reception and thank goodness we arrived early because the place could have been full in that time we wait.

It is economical, bite value. But overrated, nothing more than abundant dishes. Personally, I ordered "PANCHO VILLA" beans, EVERYTHING was dry. From the sausage to the beans.

I ordered baked ribs with rice. The truth is, without exaggeration, the rice had a lot of oil so it was difficult to finish the dish. The fat from the meat caused me stomach problems about three hours later. At least I won't go anymore.
