The chicken was good, not too fatty and has a good Texture to it, maybe they use kampong chicken? My friends liked their roasted pork(aka siew yoke) but not to my liking as they pour a sweet sauce over the roasted pork and it takes away the savoury taste imo. Steamboat was yummy, good servings of pork/fish/seafood and vegetables; however... More

We came here looking for traditional hainanese chicken rice. This restaurant has been around for years and the decor definitely reflects it's history. As soon as we walked in, we felt like we were back in the 70s, which was exactly what we were looking for. We came here on a weekday night and the restaurant was quite empty, with... More

This old restaurant is certainly popular with the locals (and with tourists like me who read about it in Lonely Planet). An experience akin to travelling back in time, similar to what Chinatown looked like many years ago. Not sure what to say about the service: there were 3 elderly gentlemen working in the restaurant and one waitress - not... More

This used to be good but now the chicken is dry as cardboard and absolutely tasteless. $6 per serving is pretty expensive. Service which was brusque at best in the past has now descended to rude. Do yourself a favour and go across the road to Chin Chin which is far superior.

This is a great place to visit if you want to experience what it was like eating at a local coffee shop in Singapore in the 1970s. It feels authentic and is really to be appreciated before the complete gentrification of this area of Singapore. Now there have been varied opinions about the chicken rice here. I'd say if you... This is an very authentic Chinese restaurant. We were just a little bit hungry and had both a fresh lime soda and shared a portion of roast pork...which was excellent. The whole set for 6 SD !

This shop was recommended by a local and both of us ordered half a chicken and 2 bowls of rice. Service is really not friendly - rather abrupt with no smiles and the restaurant was not even half full. The chicken was lean and rice is not oily and that's about the only positive things I can say about the... More

Yet Con is an institution... Dining here is like having a meal in a time capsule. You will be seated in a setting from eons back, on decades-old marbled tables by staff who have been doing this for all their life! The food is authentic and non-pretentious. It is prepared and served as it has always been done for years... More

$30 for a whole chicken, slightly more expensive than hawkers out there, But the quality and amount of chicken is well worth it. Rice were ok, not the most fragrant that I've tried, as I preferred the more oily version. The roast pork were not impressive during my visit, as it appears to be leftovers. Conclusion: I will be back... More

Chicken rice is something normal for us Malaysians...yet this place stood out. Located along Purvis Street which its colonial builings, this restaurant which was est in the 1940 serves one of the best chicken rice I've eaten. Dont forget to order their delicious roasted pork while you're dining there. :)
