Very interesting food and the creator had added some unique new taste to some of the well-known Cantonese cuisine. Dishes are generally small, which means the guests can try a different varieties on each visit. However, the menu had been set up for a a number of years, and for repeating customers, one might get bored with the menu. I... More

I've been coming to this restaurant numerous times and have always gone home satisfied and happy. The menu is interesting without being confusion and the food is absolutely delicious, no matter what you order. My favourite are the

I love Dan Dan noodles, but the one here lacked the usual oomph you get from the thick gravy. The Lamma fried rice was so bland, I was struggling to finish the small portion I took. The sesame dumpling dessert was probably the nicest out of all the food we had. It didn't disappoint as much as the mains did!... More

Xi Yan I guess markets itself as a fusion cuisine. However being somewhat a well travelled person with a good interest to try proper local cuisine, I fail to see what cuisine it tries to fuse. In reality, it seems to try to offer different food from different regions in a bland local Cantonese flavor that tries to act as... More

It's hard to go wrong with eating out in Hong Kong but go wrong I most certainly did. The absence of any other diners in the restaurant at 7pm should have been a warning but I made the mistake of taking a seat. The food I ordered was inedible, I had one mouthful, asked for the bill and left. This... More

This is a restaurant that gives traditional desserts a creative twist. I love their custard dumplings encased with sweet peanuts and custard that oozes out. Yum! Lychee ice cream with osathamus wine is really good...

xi yan sweets offers unpretentious atmosphere and truly outstanding food. I crave the kou shui ji (szechuan chicken) all the time...it is simply put the best variation on this great dish I have ever had...the world over (and I go for this dish all the time, all over the place). great veg dishes too...just all around a great dining experience... Delicious Dandan noodles but served a bit cold. Their Pomelo salad was flavorful though the Prawns were too few. I cannot argue about the atmosphere! Small and quaint place in a narrow street hidden from the bustle.....A welcome find! Desserts are to die for! Love the Banana Ice Cream with Banana fritters. A visit soon coming!

A great variety of consistently good modern Chinese food. I hate to call it fusion because the word has negative connotations for some people, myself included. Highlights are the spicy sichuan chicken, Dandan noodles, grilled pork neck and the lovely fresh and delicious desserts. But really nothing has disappointed in the past. Definitely one to visit and revisit and revisit.

My husband and I live on Star Street and whenever we come to Xi Yan Sweets, there is a MUST ORDER staple dish : Sichuan Spicy Chicken. Another favourite dish of ours is Grilled Thai Pork. The Sauteed Shrimp & Tofu is quite common dish but done very artfully with the soft tofu melting in your mouth. One of the... More

Staying in Sheung Wan

Neighbourhood Profile
Sheung Wan
Unlike most of Hong Kong’s other popular districts, Sheung Wan welcomes wanderers with an easy-going, relaxed atmosphere. Art galleries are plentiful and boutique cafés are tucked away in every side street in the sub district known as “PoHo.” Browse through the vintage clothing and handmade leather goods stores – it’s no surprise fashionistas flock to this area. History enthusiasts will be rewarded with sites of beautiful architecture, reflecting Sheung Wan’s past as one of the earliest settlements by British forces. As night falls, the entertainment scene reveals itself to be just as laid back with its private kitchens, speakeasies and underground bars dotted throughout the area. When in Sheung Wan, everyday feels like the weekend.
