Dropped in for takeout after dinner elsewhere. Siu yuk was disappointing being way too lean and dry. Meat roughly chopped up in size with bits of bone so when chewed, had some difficulty telling bone from crackling! Goose was acceptable, not brilliant but safe to order. On impulse decided on pigeon to try. Meat lean, chewy and gamey with a... More

Very small place. It is a nice restaurant to have your first meal in Hong Kong. It is very cheap and the duck is good. But do not expect a meal that will blow you away.

Joy Hing is probably as authentic a setting as one can get eating in a traditional restaurant in Hong Kong. It is bustling with people, squeezy, thick with aroma, and noisy. If you want to experience dining as the locals do, you can get it here. Despite the endless orders and queue, service staff never holler at you impatiently as... More

Heard a lot of people recommending this place. It was walking distance to where we were staying and so decided to visit this place. It was a total disappointment. The roasted goose looks good but lacks in flavor. The roasted pig was dry and hard. Never mind going to this place. The servers were typical Hong Kong snobbish bunch. Forget... More

I always around in Wan Chai, I knew Joy Hing over 10 years. There food absolutely worse than before. For me, the favor food in Joy Hing must "Char siu rice", if you just order "Char siu", you should lost the balance. But at the last time, char siu too thin and the rice is difference than before, too soft.

Heard so much about this small joint but was disappointed with the roast goose (thankfully we later found Kam's which we think serves the best roast goose in HK). Perhaps we should have just stuck to siu mei.

I couldn't believe my family of 5 spent only $240 for roast duck, crispy suckling pig, and steamed vegetables. We loved it, and would recommend to anyone who wants a fast and filling meal in the Wanchai area. If the management could cook their rice with a little more care, they would earn a 5-star rating from me the next... More

I sometimes buy BBQ Pork taking out at Joy Hing. Joy Hing's 'cha siu' / BBQ pork was yummy, the meat usually comes half lean meat with a bit of fat.

If you want a real taste of Hong Kong, this is it! Absolutely the best duck and pork in all of Asia , I could have eaten here every day, truly a taste treat, the crispy outside combined with the moist center and the flavor !!! Place us crowded, seating close, but then that's the way the locals eat, so... More

We tried Joy Hing because of its Michelin star and were extremely disappointed. As we had never been before we told the staff member that we wanted roast pork, char siew and roast goose and asked her how it would be served. We had a group of five people so we opted to order the meat on its own and... More

Staying in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay

Neighbourhood Profile
Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centres of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.
