Discovered this place on a private food tour of Hong Kong... jam packed with locals enjoying a traditional breakfast. Until now, all we had experienced was stodgy Western congee... yuck. This place serves the real thing.... soooooo good. Well worth a visit... try the fish and chicken ball congee.

Our first morning in HK my Malaysian wife has always raved about congee since we got together 13yrs ago, I've never been a fan. Even with that I will never say no to food while traveling so we made an early morning trip here. Menus on the walls dont feature any english but the staff are very quick to bring... More

Recommended by a local friend. Worth the wait. Porridge was very well cooked and delicious. We had a variety of toppings for the porridge. Fish , Beef Balls, innards, liver.... reasonably priced. Another no frills restaurant. Definitely sharing table...

This store is located in Sheung Wan, famous for its congee as its name suggested. It has a sister store adjacent selling beef and fish ball noodle as well. On the setup, it is not exactly comfortable for customers, but a more traditional, 'neighborhood' style where it offers convenience, quick eat and go environment. I ordered the Fish Belly and... Ever since my HK friend introduced this place to me in the early nineties, I had been back everytime I set foot on HK for more Congee. All my friends who were recommended this place also gave their thumbs up. Each and every bowl of their Congee is served piping hot. In the colder season, the bowl become a form... More

Popular with the locals. While in queue, I notice many locals collecting their take away. It was lunch time. Small place able to seat around 10-15 people at 1 time. Yr order will be taken while in q & yr porridge comes very fast once seated. A big bowl of porridge with bread dough stick is enough to fill yr... More

They cook the congees the traditional Canatonese way and they took their time to prepare the congee ahead of time, bring to boil, add ingredients etc. The beef tendon noodle was to my taste. Various types of congees were generally fine, and the price was good too. Beware, however, that there are three shops all by the same name on... More

The address is actually on Burd street I believe. Congee was piping hot and delicious. I went very early in the morning and there were a lot of regulars. The iced milk tea is very nice too. Fish cakes were okay as were the churro type things they served. It's really cheap, take a napkin, and don't bring a lot... More

If you want to experience authentic HK food with the locals this is a great place to go. The restaurant setting is very basic but clean. The service is efficient but don't expect any niceties. You are here to eat, not to make friends. The food was tasty and very good value for money. I enjoyed the fish congee while... More

We were looking for this restaurant after reading the review. The food was really good and they served very quick. Waitress were very friendly even though they dont speak English, but they do have English menu. We came here twice and tried different things. They also have fried eggs with ham and bread for my Caucasian husband.

Staying in Sheung Wan

Neighbourhood Profile
Sheung Wan
Unlike most of Hong Kong’s other popular districts, Sheung Wan welcomes wanderers with an easy-going, relaxed atmosphere. Art galleries are plentiful and boutique cafés are tucked away in every side street in the sub district known as “PoHo.” Browse through the vintage clothing and handmade leather goods stores – it’s no surprise fashionistas flock to this area. History enthusiasts will be rewarded with sites of beautiful architecture, reflecting Sheung Wan’s past as one of the earliest settlements by British forces. As night falls, the entertainment scene reveals itself to be just as laid back with its private kitchens, speakeasies and underground bars dotted throughout the area. When in Sheung Wan, everyday feels like the weekend.
