Who would have ever guessed that exquisite sushis could be found in a shopping mall? But again, we are in Hong Kong, where shopping centers are much more than a mere collection of chain stores and retail outlets. From fine pastry shops to full-fledged Japanese restaurants, Festival Walk in the Kowloon Tong area offers a wide spectrum of venues for... More

I have been here a few times; the business lunch is decent and is of good portion for the price, but the service has been on and off. However, my experience about 2 weeks ago has confirmed that I will not step foot here again. My friend and I went there for lunch recently on a weekday. We were seated... More

I had a business lunch with colleagues at Ana Gura. I chose the business lunch set for HKD250. The set comes with a nice assortment of standard dishes: The noodles were good. The sashimi was very fresh and tasty and the tempura was also nice (not so oily which is how I prefer it). I dont particularly like the interior... More

I really enjoyed my dinner there. Everything was fresh and delicious. The staff a bit noisy, but everything went smooth. The place wasn't busy at all, maybe because it was Thursday. You also need to know it's there, it's not that you just bump into it walking along the street. I'll go there again when I get back to HK.

Normally you put up with something for good food. But its not the case here. The food is average and expensive for what you are getting although the sushi was fresh. Something in one of the courses had that msg buzz. The tables are so close together, you might as well be sitting at one long table running the length... More

I had a day to kill on my last day in HK and decided to eat here on my own for lunch. I love the fact that in HK you can climb some grubby stairs to get to a reasonable restaurant like this! As I climbed the stairs I didn't expect much, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. They sat... More

Good food selections, above average services, nice decorations but definitely not cheap! It is a non truly Japanese style restaurant as it doesn't focus on one or two kind of food but a mix bag of almost everything. Hence quality varies, most food we ordered tasted fine except the rice in the sushi are too soft, not enough vinegar and... More

On the way to Bali my family and I made a week long foodie stop in Hong Kong, I know, crazy, but I can’t help it, as HK rocks for great food experiences! When in Hong Kong, though, there’s only one place to go for ‘off the hook’ tempura, and that’s Ana Gura. I’ve been here for dinner during my... More

I have visited this place a number of times, and on the whole, have liked it. The lunch sets in particular are good value (for a relatively expensive restaurant) and there is a full (and massive) lunch set for vegetarians too, which I have tried once, and I was impressed. That said, my last visit resulted in a stroppy customer... More

I was on my way to the Philippines and whenever I’m flying to Asia from NYC I almost always make a food stop in HK as the options are just that good. I can report that if you want a great Japanese tempura place in HK, then Ana Gura is your place! Located in Lan Kwai Fong, I can say... More

Staying in Central

Neighbourhood Profile
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.
