This restaurant is a 10 mins walk from our hotel, so we decided to try it for our first meal in Hong Kong. The first thing we noticed once we were inside, was that there was a huge platter of crabs with spicy looking topping, but after consulting the menu price we decided against it. It was roughly a $100... More

Asked our concierge for a good local crab restaurant and he recommended this . So glad he did. You can choose the size and level of chill you like. Covered in crunchy chilli breadcrumbs and plenty of other dishes and sides to choose from, washed down with a cold San Miguel - perfect!

We had a business dinner on a Monday night in October. Make sure you have a reservation before you go there. It's very crowded. Not many of the staff speak English, but luckily the menu also has pictures. Food is absolutely delicious and the portions are generous. We had various fish, of course crab and also hairy crab (it was... More

The signature dish of Typhoon Shelter Crab will set you back. However, it is cooked so well that it is a must try. Very friendly staff.

Was so looking forward to trying out this place, as I had seen it recommended in so many books. What a disappointment!! We were literally barked at when we were shown to our table, had to seek out a waitress to place an order. Food was average, pork ribs were quite tough. It was honestly one of the worst customer... I only tried the typhoon shelter spicy crab, so my rating is just for this dish and price ratio. Going alone i choose the smallest crab, but even so it cost 450 hk$. The meat is good, also the garlic and chilli topping, but it's too overpriced.

Three times as expensive as meals that are just as good or better. The spicy chili crab is unique and the chili topping is tasty, but the crab itself has very little meat. At $450hkd/crab it doesn't feel worth it!

If you like spicy with Garlic, you will love here. The crab is fresh and the size is big. Comparing to the price is reasonable.

Staying in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay

Neighbourhood Profile
Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centres of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.
