da dong is famous for its peking duck for a reason. the presentation style of every dish (even those that weren't the star dish) was spot on, and the flavor was exploding with each bite. then, they brought out the peking duck. the entire process was very elaborate and dignified, they cut it precisely and with so much care and skill. the waiters and waitresses that attended to our table were friendly, hospitable, and super helpful when we asked questions. the duck itself was the best duck dish in china by far!! such a delicious meal - a MUST GO if you're in Beijing!

We had an excellent dinner of roast Peking duck. The duck lived up to expectations. The meat was juicy and succulent. It was not fatty at all and the skin felt crisp and light. There are no options to order a half duck but we had no problem eating a whole one between two people plus two additional dishes. The small octopus with garlic chives was outstanding. The menu is in English which was helpful. Service was prompt and efficient except the duck soup at the end which took so long we started doubting if we were getting it as it wasn’t mentioned on the menu. Eventually it showed up and was delicious- keep some space for it! The duck costs around €55 and you need to order the pancakes and condiments separately. We paid just over €100 for a huge dinner for two with duck, octopus, a vegetable dish, a pot of tea and 4 beers. It’s a stylish modern environment though not particularly atmospheric. We tried to book but they would not accept a reservation for two people. We showed up around 8pm on a Thursday evening. It was not full and we got a table without waiting. We went to the Wangfujing branch which is in the Joy Mall located next to Wangfujing subway station. It was a bit hard to find. Go to the station Exit E and then into the large modern mall opposite (everyone called it Joy mall but the name in the outside was different). The restaurant name didn’t appear anywhere. Go the 5th floor and you will find it but look up how it’s written in Chinese. We first tried to go to a different branch about 15 minutes away but it was closed for renovation so it might be worth calling ahead to confirm and also checking you have the correct location.

I had dinner here and I really enjoyed the service and experience of watching the Chef slice the duck at my table. The duck was very tender and juicy! Never had duck this good in the USA. I ordered a large whole duck because it was the same price as the small duck. Service was excellent…I would highly recommend this place for duck!

This restaurant is a bit hard to find, but it is on the 5th floor in a shopping centre at 301 Wangfujing Street. We arrived at around 8pm and had to wait about 5 minutes for a table, and while looking through the menu they told us that if we wanted Peking Duck we would have to order it soon because of the cooking time, so we did that, and we also ordered some other starters which were great - fried shrimp, asparagus and eggplant. But the Peking duck was the star of the show and we all enjoyed our meal immensely.

This is my favorite place for Peking Duck. I had it in 2006 for the first time and loved it. Had the duck almost on a monthly basis for the next 5 years. It’s been more than 5 years since I had a meal at Da Dong and when I finally had the Peking duck again in 2024, it was still as wonderful as I remember it to be. The duck skin is crisp, light, melt-in-your- mouth… the pancake skins are so thin they are almost translucent. It felt almost as if I could eat the whole duck and 2 baskets of pancake all on my own 🤤 . The other dishes are quite innovative as well and are worth trying. Service was impeccable. Staff even whipped out a camera light to help illuminate my food photos 😅

Very good Peking Duck that you shouldn’t miss if you are in Beijing. We went to the Da Dong at DT51, the latest shopping mall at North Beijing. Excellent service and very modern high class ambience. Give it a try!

Came for lunch on the hunt for Beijing duck. Restaurant is in a very central location - Wanfujing (a few minutes walk from the metro station). The building the restaurant was in was undergoing renovation. We met a very friendly smiley chatty chef in training in the lift - bless him - he seemed to be the sole cheerful staff member we encountered (no disrespect intended to the other staff) the dining room was huge, and the tables were all very spacious. The same piano music playing was on loop throughout which became annoying after a while but there are def worse things. the service was fairly prompt but felt very robotic with minimal eye contact. perhaps we went at a time of shift change as we had about 4-5 different waiting staff taking orders. (eg the first one confirmed we wanted the duck and went to put the order in then was never seen again.) we also ordered the sichuan sausage (tasted similar to chorizo) and two small bowls of rice. price for a duck was 398 RMB. the duck came with a chef carving it - work of mastery. the duck was delicious, da dong restaurant did a slim version duck to avoid the overly greasy feel. the accompanying condiments (which have an extra charge ) included turnip, cucumber, spring onion, sugar and sauce. there were plenty of pancakes brought to accompany the duck. Interestingly not every diner come to Da Dong for the duck, we spotted a large table ordering and eating a large hotpot meal. I think its comparable to my experience at QuanJuDe (the other famous duck restaurant) a few years ago so would recommend a visit.

An upper end restaurant, serving mouthwatering roast duck and other fine Chinese cuisine. The meats are prepared to perfection, juicy, tender, and delicious.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel and we were not disappointed. It is located on the 5th floor of a mall. We made a reservation at 4pm and when we arrived, the place was close to empty. Hence, we had a server all to ourselves and she was very diligent in teaching us the 3 different ways to enjoy our duck, as well as pouring our drinks for us. She also helped us to pack our leftover food and even walked us to the lift. Really stunned by the service after reading a few negative comments here. The duck was super delicious! The skin was crispy and meat tender. We also ordered 2 other dishes - a meat dish and a veggie dish. The portions were large and all the dishes were tasty. In total for 2 pax, we only paid 800+ yuan which I felt was justifiable for the service and quality of food. I would recommend coming during non-peak hours as when we left around 5.30pm (close to dinner), the customers started pouring in.

For the amount we paid we were highly disappointed with the service and quality of food. We later found another restaurant which served a whole duck with better ingredients service at half the price. The duck was good but the fresh ingredients that came with it were wilted and looked like it had been sitting out for some time. The staff also looked like they could not be bothered with us and we felt extremely unwelcomed. I highly recommend going else where the locals eat.

This place was just around the corner from our hotel so walking distance. What a great find! We were able to communicate well with staff using the picture menu to point and order. Traditional duck dish was so succulent and the price for service and food excellent. Recommended.

Trip to Beijing without trying their famous peking roast duck is imperfect. Xiao DaDong is one the highly popular restaurants that serves great roast duck with a smaller portion at reasonable price. I just ordered this half duck set meal and it's filling for 1 person. The meal ends with a complimentary ice cream too.

We've eaten Peking Duck twice in Beijing - both times at this restaurant. Both times the duck was cooked perfectly, the side dishes crisp and tasty, the salads innovative but the service a little slow - still they always seem to be busy. We booked both times (or at least our hotel did for us) and noticed that it was full both nights we went. It's a little tricky to find in the building - look out for sign posts! Recommended.

Tasty-skinned Peking duck. Service slow, if you’re from USA. Warning: not easy to find, so prepare yourself to decipher the labyrinthine entry.
