The Chinese cuisine served is very good. I especially liked the half duck, Signature Kung Pao shrimp, sauteed beef cubes, and scallion oil pancakes. The inside of the restaurant could use an upgrade. It was noisy during our visit, due to some type of car salesmen gathering filling the main portion of the restaurant. The theatre performance which began at about 8 pm, was fairly nice, and included magic tricks, Beijing opera, and Sichuan-type ace changing performance.

Dinner was good. I liked the tasty Chinese cucumber soup, tasty beef cubes, tea varieties, and the after-dinner performance, with a mix of entertaining performers.

This restaurant has a wonderful variety of traditional Chinese cuisine. It specializes in crayfish and Peking duck. It's a great place to bring visitors from abroad. The food is good and they have a lively stage show that's very entertaining.

I felt that presentation came first at this restaurant, followed by reputation (our signature dish), service, convenience and finally flavor/execution. Peking duck was ok, but I’ve had better. They used a bunch of cutesy side dishes and sauces to ramp up the wow factor. However, it did anything but wow me. Lots of crispy fat, so if that’s your thing, give it a try. The big disappointment was the cabbage, also a “signature dish”. Flavor was decent, but that texture, or lack of, reminded me of eating mushy, soggy, boiled Brussel sprouts. YUCK! Find a mom and pop shop for a fraction of the price and way better execution. Let the tourists have Hua’s.

I can’t recommend it to tourists who don’t know Chinese enough to calmly resolve a difficult situation. Almost as soon as we sat down at the table, they brought us 5 strawberries as a compliment. We waited longer for the menu, but after 10 minutes they finally brought it to us (the good thing is that everything is with photographs and translation into English. The bad thing is that everything is mixed up in the photographs, but you can guess where everything is). We were surprised that there were no drinks on the menu, but thought that maybe this was a feature, not a bug. We waited about 30 minutes for someone to come up to us to take our order. The order was accepted and a drinks menu was brought. And then things went completely crazy. First they brought us broken cucumbers, which we did not order; a minute later they came back, apologized and took them to another table. It's good that we assumed it was a mistake and didn't touch them. Then they brought us some strange appetizers with black caviar, which we did not order. In response to my questions, they began to explain that we ordered exactly them, pointing to a separate item on the menu, but after my questions (it’s good that we activated roaming, hurray for online translators!), Where are the pancakes and vegetables that we really ordered, but they were not brought, and persistent requests to take away incomprehensible snacks, we were told that they were included in the duck we ordered, although this was clearly not the case - they simply mixed up the pancakes and vegetables ordered for the duck with these snacks. Trying to understand whether these expensive snacks were calculated for us or not, we asked for the bill, and were greatly shocked to find 5 berries, which appeared at the beginning of the review, on the receipt, and even for 50 yuan. The line below the berries were deducted, but the check was in Chinese, so this was not noticed immediately and caused outrage. While all this trash was happening, it became clear why they didn’t take our order for so long - apparently they were afraid of such situations, because, for unknown reasons, in the restaurant where foreign presidents and royalty are received, apparently there was not a single English speaker person. No one used an online translator either, only at the last moment, when the evening was completely ruined, the girl used the translator to indicate that berries were not only added to the check, but also subtracted from it. If it weren’t for the cool status of the restaurant and the photographs of all those pretentious visitors hung in the corridor, I would simply tell this story with a laugh or forget, but it’s difficult to forgive a place with “pretensions” such service.

After visiting Huajia Yiyuan restaurant in Beijing, I am learning to love Chinese! I was not necessarily a fan of Chinese food until this trip, but have definitely done a 360!

Our hotel was nearby and they recommended this restaurant for the Peking Duck. We turned up and were drawn in by the ducks hanging in the window and chefs busy slicing them. While there were some groups of western tourists there were also plenty of Chinese. We were assisted by Jacky who spoke good English and encouraged us to wait for a table in the main room so we could watch the show. At this time there were some musicians playing traditional instruments. Once seated we navigated the menu (pictures and some English ). As the duck takes some time we ordered some pork balls and wok fried beans with pork to start. Sensational! Jacky also threw in a duck soup as well- very tasty. It so happened that an Australian chardonnay was on the specials list that night so we couldn't say no. The duck arrived in all its glory, expertly sliced and beautifully presented with vegetable and sauce accompaniments and beautiful delicate rolled pancakes. We ate the lot. Meanwhile the show continued with a magician, an opera singer and an amazing man who managed to change face masks with a twitch of his cape. This feast and entertainment cost us just over 500rmb. It was a memorable evening with great food and helpful service. Highly recommended!

Good atmosphere at the courtyard. Not very sophisticated food but very good traditional food. Had the duck and some pork Kung pai and some additional appetizers.

The duck was excellent. We also had braised green beans which were also delicious. I especially loved the ambience. I would recommend this as a great tourist experience.

I was introduced to this restaurant by an expat about 10 years ago and I keep going back every time I'm in town. So I've been to it about 6-7 times. I also recommend it to all of my friends heading to Beijing. Why? Because the food is in excellent quality, the dishes are both well prepared and presented. The atmosphere is very authentic and you see a lot of locals. It has served quite a few (western) celebrities, too. At 8 pm they also have a kind of a show to entertain the guests. As in many restaurants in China you can bring your own alcohol for no charge. It's not about making your bill smaller but have a drink you really like with such a good food. Especially handy in case your drink is wine. There is pretty decent selection of wines in the store just next door.

A fabulous find, scrumptious food especially the Peking Duck, and authentic Chinese entertainment. So much so we went back for a second time! Special thanks to Jackie for looking after us so well on both occasions!

This might not be the most ‘traditional’ duck restaurant in Beijing but it is the one I most frequent. Get a table in the main restaurant if you want to watch the show (includes magic, music, peking opera as well as balloon models for the kids. It starts from around 7pm-830pm), a table outside if you want to smoke or a private room if you want to be noisy! If you have WeChat add their English speaking waiter Jackie — jackiejia4 — hewill help you book a table and assist you all evening (really useful if any guests have allergies or special requirements) also tip-top: they do sell alcohol but we always bring our own. Oh, and it’s buy one get one free on beers during the week! It gets busy around showtime and national holidays (so, again, get in touch with Jackie before hand and he will get you a good table!)

This restaurant is an experience and really recommended. The atmosphere is rather genuine, the personnel is friendly, competent and quick. All the dishes we tried, including the signature Peking duck, were delicious. Book in advance unless you want to wait for a table.

the 398 meal has a lot of food-roasted duck, fish, beef. It's almost enough for 2 meals and the tastes are fine. except that roasted duck bones were not well done...
