I was a regular visitor to this restaurant over many years, especially for the Friday and Saturday live band, not sure if they still play. I hadn't been back in a while. In a sense, it all feels the same: lovely ambience, good vibes, courteous staff and delicious food (though I keep thinking it is a little overpriced).

We stayed at the Stanley before a safari and ate here for breakfast, lunch and some dinners. Breakfast is a lovely buffet, lunch and dinner are off of a menu. The pizza is made in house with their pizza oven, the seafood pizza is divine! The food and service is great! This was the first post office in Nairobi...the Thorn... More

Breakfast is amazing - fully laid out with fresh fruit - yogurt - cereals at hot section and pastries! The chef makes eggs or crepes - whatever you desire! LOVE LOVE LOVE the staff!

We stopped here for some masala tea with milk and a smoothie. This is just a beautiful cafe with a great history. Left a message at the message tree and relaxed with my son and his friend. Did not have a meal but I bet the food would be very good. Next time will go for lunch!

Stayed over a week at the Stanley and ate several times at this cafe. It's a good place to get lunch and grab a beer, Tusker specifically. The beef stew was really good and the chicken casadillas was good, even spicy.

There were, we were told by friends and locals, two hotels and their bars/restaurants that were on the must see list. This was one of them, in the Stanley hotel. We started at the bar for a couple of Tuskers. It is a beautiful old bar, lots of wood, comfortable seats, and old pictures dealing with Kenya, the railroad which... More

I was quite anxious to re-visit the famous Thorn tree cafe with its tree and messages. Coming down there where it is at the ground floor, you will not immediately recognize the old restaurant from the 70 and 80. The tree is a new one since the old tree died. The restaurant is separated from the street with glass and... More

Very nice and varied buffet breakfast (loved the Kenyan cakes and my friend who was born in Tanzania had a Proustian madeleine moment with one of those little cakes). And decent evening fare for those with a tight schedule who did not have the time to go further afield.

Just had diner at the Thorn Tree. Good food but for a restaurant of repute; poor service. Waiters seem to be understaffed and courtesy seems to be more forced than natural. Waitress was a bit gloomy :( Had highly rated you but you have honestly extremely disappointed me. Hope you put some work into it.

Thank Alan M
