We walked over from our hotel to have dinner at Ranolo's for some Kenya food. We really wanted to try some local food. We ordered fried tilapia, fried goat, stewed meat, traditional greens, ugali ( brown and white), sodas, Tusker beer. We liked everything except for one of the greens that was very bitter. We probably ordered way too much... More

My first time in Nairobi, my tour guide said I should stop by Ranalo for good Kenyan food 'Ugali' to be precise. It was easy locating from my hotel and when I got there the waiter was very helpful. He showed me the options which are more around the protein, they had chicken, beef, rabbit and more also fish. The... More

We told our driver we wanted to have local food and he brought us to ranalo. This is the place the locals come, you order and pay first, then they serve you the food. We had fish, chicken and beef. The fish is good but not the chicken and beef. Too tough. Guide told us liver is supposed to be... More

Tasty local food, reasonably priced. There is a bar with live music joined to the restaurant which is great fun. The restaurant is a little confusing when you first arrive, you need to pay up front for what you want at the payment desk. The waiter spotted our confusion and was very helpful though. Great service.

Yummy chicken, ugali and sukuma wiki, all eaten in a friendly environment, with good music and accompanied by a Tusker, and chit-chat with friends = a lovely evening in Nairobi.

I have been here many times, and will continue to return every time I come to Nairobi. I have sampled many of the dishes over the years, but my favourites are the tilapia stew and brown ugali. The chapatis are sometimes undercooked (raw on one occasion) but when they are done well, they are spot on! A great place to... More

Excellent local food. You order first and can be a little confusing. What we did was to look at the food first and then order as suggested by a very helpful and nice server. We got the brown ugali, the spinach, chapati, goat stew and while fried fish. It was a lot of food but all great particularly as some... More

Doesn't look like much from the road, but head upstairs for a great music spot. One side is a restaurant/bar where you can order traditional fares like ugali, rice/beans, greens, meats, fish, even matooke sometimes for reasonable prices. Normal beer and liquor selection. On the other side is the live music, dancing picks up by 10. This is a band... More
