A remarkable deal: Fill your plate with your choice of delicious home-cooked food for a few liras. When I lived in Istanbul, this was one of my favorite regular spots to eat. Food and staff lovely. A good bet for vegetarians.

This is the best value for your lira that I have found in Istanbul. For less than 20 lira, you are given a plate with five dishes of your choice, all delicious, along with bread and water. As a vegetarian, I always have plenty of options. Highly recommend, especially for those on a budget.

There is good variety of homemade mostly vegetarian dishes. You can chose up to 5 for one plate (for between 12 and 15 TLY). Bread and water are served free of charge. Staff is nice but not all of them speak English. You can pay with card as well.

I was amazed when I first saw how many dishes of vegetables they have for such a small price. The quality of the food is excellent, as well as the service. This is an excellent place for vegeterians and vegans to eat tasty and not expensive food.

This small place has excelent veggie food at a really good price. We went there and had lunch several times when we were in Istanbul. For a simple plate with 5 different things and some water me AND my son only spent 27 TKL !!!

The formula is very simple. You go to the bar and make your choice (or point out) 5 dishes you want. You take a seat and after a couple of minutes you get your plate with small portions of these foods. Still a nice plate. No small bits. During the day the foods available vary. Take a drink with it... More

Have lived in the neighbourhood for many years now and keep coming back to Helvetia. A week rarely goes by without having at least one meal there (sometimes many more). The food is as good as anything you will find in Istanbul, and the prices haven't changed significantly for years. It's a small family-run operation with friendly staff, an oasis... More

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighbourhood Profile
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
