We got delivery so I can't say anything about the restaurant beyond the food, which was lackluster at best. Larb, ok. Pad Thai, under seasoned and thick wide noodles like for pad se ew, not actual pad Thai noodles. Tom ka gai was watered down...coconut milk with a couple mushrooms and one piece of chicken. Som tum was okay. Just tastes like they don't care, at all.More

This is a very confusing restaurant. I don´t think they have a trained chef, as even my very own early attempts at making tad Thai and green curry put this restaurant´s offerings to shame. The pad Thai is often lacking both in flavour and moisture,...and the green curry is just an insult to Thai cuisine on every level - an oily, watery mess with some very sad pieces of chicken floating around like shipwreck survivors, waiting to be put out of their misery by the inevitably disappointed diner. On the other hand, certain ´Wok fried dishes´ are perfectly edible, just very bland. This place came highly recommended by several friends, so it´s probably the last time I´ll take any of them seriously when it comes to food related opinions. If anyone is looking for a gap in the market, Hanoi could really do with a decent Thai restaurant.More

What makes this place unique is the size of the meal and the price. Many dishes start at only 80k. The dish will be packed with lots of chunky veg and meet. Try this place you will not regret it !

I went there with my dad. This restaurant was very comfy and silent place because the restaurant is placed where it is hard to find. The cuisine was good, especially shrimp with garlic sause. I ate it all including sause. I wanna visit there again.

I stayed in the Intercontinental hotel nearby and walked past the laneway several times. One evening, I decided to explore down the laneway. I am glad i did. The restaurant seating is almost all outdoors. With nicely oiled wooden tables and chairs. The menu had...a nice variety although it was a small selection. The Tom Yum Hai soup was perfect. The green papaya salad was crisp and perfectly seasoned. Service was prompt and very friendly.More

Excellent Thai cuisine overlooking the lake in center city, get a seat on the balcony and watch the people in this metropolis of seven million.

I have been there a few times and the food is great, but the service is terrible. Just recently, I went there and there was a large table with a lot of people eating. It was approximately 12:30pm and I was craving Thai food. I...went in and the girl told me that they were closed! I left, very upset. Today, I called them to order delivery to my house. They asked where I live. I live 4km from the place. It takes me about 5-10 minutes to drive there. They said they don't deliver that far. I offered to pay an extra fee for the delivery, but no... Everyone over on Xuan Dieu that delivers has delivered to my house before... I'm never going there again! They lost a customer!More

I enjoy Thai food so was delighted to find a quiet tucked away Thai restaurant in a lane off the main road. It was a warm sunny day so I sat in a pretty leafy courtyard outside the restaurant. I ordered two dishes, and asked...if I could have a side order of green curry sauce only as well. The waitress who was very charming throughout said that they don't normally do this, but she arranged it with the chef which was great. I asked for soy sauce and fresh chilies too as an accompaniment, which didn't arrive before or during most of the meal, and although asked for politely once or twice, both arrived when the meal was almost finished. The fried rice arrived first which was pleasant , although warm rather than hot, and quite a while later the sweet and sour chicken arrived with another chicken dish described as being very spicy. The taste of the sweet and sour chicken was delicious, it was hot and although the onions were rather overcooked so that they didn't have that crispness associated with this dish, it was very pleasant. The sauce was very thin though as was the sauce for the other dish, which was a bit of a shame. But the chicken in the other dish was actually cold as was the sauce and vegetables. I asked the waitress if it was meant to be a hot dish and she said it was so I asked if the chef could warm it up. I had eaten all the other food, including the rice by the time it returned. When I tasted it it was , if anything, even colder than when I first sampled it. I asked the waitress later if the chef had warmed it up and she confirmed that she had seen him put it into the microwave but that she also noticed it standing in the kitchen 20 minutes later as she and the chef had forgotten about it! So rather than reheating again, she had quite simply just brought it out to me again. I didn't say much but I did say quietly that the temperature of the food needs more care as their food is actually very tasty but that they must attend to the customer more if they want people to return. She was sweet and apologetic which is why I only complained mildly but I can't help feeling that the overall experience was a shame, because if the food was hot, I imagine it would have been really tasty. Even though the green curry and spicy chicken were not really very spicy as described they were still rather delicious, despite their cold temperature, so I can imagine how it could be quite transformed if the timing of the serving was correct.More

After almost 3 weeks in Vietnam I was craving Thai food & was shocked that there weren't many Thai restaurants around. We went to one place first that claimed it was Thai but the menu was all Vietnamese! After a short drive from our motel...we arrived at Thai Smile. It is down a little side street so can easily be missed. We had the satay chicken skewers, Panang beef & another somewhat spicy chicken stir fry (can't remember Thai name sorry). All meals were delicious but the satay sauce was the best!!! Service was very quick & staff very friendly. All up with drinks our meal came to 345,000 VND - BARGAIN! Highly recommend :)More

The restaurant was empty save for employees on a Friday night. It shouldn't be. Maybe they had an earlier crowd. Thai Smile is just off Xuan Dieu about 50 meters. We sat on the patio. It was an exceptionally fine evening. I wasn't expecting much...due to the lack of customers but I was very pleasantly surprised by the food. The shrimp in the fried shrimp appetizers were firm and flavorful, as they should be. The red curry was well-made and the oyster sauce beef was better than many which I have had previously. It had the smoky flavor of a well seasoned wok. The beef was some of the most tender I have had in a stir fry. I will be returning. I live close by. I lived in Thailand for a little more than four years and periodically get the yearning for a good Thai dish. Thai Smile serves very good Thai food.More
