We love the dark German bread and order several loaves to be delivered every week since we don't live in Ciputra (address says Ta Hoy but it is over in Ciputra). This place is the best and only real German bakery. Much, much better than...the whole grain breads in other places in Tay Ho (we've tried them all!).More
Dear ExpatFamily_12, Donkey would like to express our gratefullness for your love of our products. We are glad that you had great memories of our service, which we will keep making effort improving. We are looking forward to more chances of serving you and your...More
Love their meaningful business story and the delicious taste of this "sweet heaven". Nice and friendly place with delivery service as well.
What can be better than knowing that while enjoying a wonderful lunch one is also being socially responsible? The 'Donkey' is far more than just a bakery. It is a haven for so many people who otherwise could not find employment to do so here...in this relaxed and safe enviornment while learning new work skills. Whoever said 'nothing can be done about it' has not met the 'Donkey' owner Luyen Shell or her charming employees.More
We got takeaway a couple of times from here, they made a mistake in the order one time but we called them and they brought us the item they had forgotten initially without any problems. From what I understand they employ people from underprivileged groups...which I find honorable so good for them. The donuts were really good and cheap -- I didn't like the frosting but the filling was awesome. Generally everything else we got was good quality; cookies, banana bread, bread... I'd recommend to give it a try.More
We had coffee and donuts here and they were delicious. My partner kept remarking how good the coffee was a few days after we were there. The ambiance is very relaxed and comfortable. I love the wall of plush toys they sell at the back...end of the wall. I was very tempted to buy one of their donkeys and now I wish I had. We met the owners and they were lovely, they are a socially responsible business so it felt great to support them. Next time I will have to try their savoury options, the bread smells divine!More
Had lunch for two. Chimichanga and club sandwich were great. This time had no extra time for tasting coffees. Bought some donuts home and they were tasty. This is now my favourite western style coffee shop in Hanoi.
Great place to enjoy a lunch or just coffee! They have a great lounge area and most of all the this is a socially responsible company and they employee people with disabilities. The entire staff is amazing an so friendly.
Very good quality bread and cakes, i enjoyed it with my friends a lot missing it here in Hanoi. Only thing is that home delivery didnt deliver all items ordered but at least delivery was free with around 500k bill so this can be forgiven...this time ;) Still its very good place to visit.More
Bread. For some of us, from different parts of the world, bread is a significant part of our diet. To me, good bread is really important. Especially for toasting purposes where it becomes deliciously hot and dripping with butter and spreads... But I digress. Donkey...bakes great bread. Really great bread. I love that they're a social enterprise and doing a lot to help disabled people work, learn and improve their lives. I love that, but it's still about the bread. Over the years in Hanoi I have scoured pretty much every major bakery, every new bakery that pops up, to find a consistent, reliable supplier of the bread I like to eat. It's easy to get plain old baguettes and white bread, even white toast bread. What I missed the most was grainy bread filled with seed and stuff. It became an embarrassing issue when I filled half a suitcase with such bread from Australia earlier this year... That experience lead me back to Donkey. Previously, I had been to Donkey for lunch and tried a few of their breads, but irregularly. Donkey is a long way from my home so it's not exactly convenient to get to. However, several months ago I discovered their High Fibre Grain Loaf. O M G !!! This is the bread I had been searching for in Hanoi. For me, it's the perfect blend of grains, wholemeal bread and flavour. So I'm hooked. Happily, even though it regularly is baked in a small-size loaf, Donkey are happy to bake me a long-loaf if I ask for it. Here's the thing - Donkey are flexible. Open to customers asking for items not strictly on their menu. That counts for a lot. Usually I take a loaf or two home, manually slice it up into chunky toast slices and freeze in freezer bags, separated by baking paper. Makes for great toast options on weekends or when feeling lazy during the week for dinner. Donkey's website is great for ordering. Often I will order the day before, or early in the morning, and either collect bread on my way through towards Tay Ho or have it delivered to my office during the week. The delivery service is brilliant. I regularly order lunch (great and diverse menu) from Donkey now, usually a ciabatta sandwich - fresh, soft and yummy. They are on time, every time and will deliver loaves of bread for me as well if I need them. I could ramble on. Great business, great staff, great products, great service. Can't ask for more than that. If there was a sixth star, Donkey Bakery would get that tooMore
I can highly recommend Donkey Bakery!! Our daily visit to Hanoi started with a breakfast or brunch at Donkey Bakery. The food is delicious and the people are very friendly and helpful, making you feeling comfortable abroad. At the end of our visit I could...take nice souvenirs with me made by the sewing department. Also on our trips outside Hanoi we used the Donkey Bakery's take away service, which tasted very good.More
It is not easy to find good bread in Hanoi. After a while, we felt a bit tired of the vietnamese food and we just wanted simple bread. It was delicious. It is also a good opportunity to visit another area of Hanoi, near the...West Lake. We also met Lluyen and Marc, who are very interesting people. Congratulations for this wonderful project!More
We recently went to Donkey bakery for lunch. It has outstanding food, and it is a great cause. They hire handicapped persons to cook, serve, and manage the place, similar to Koto and Hua Sua in Hanoi. They also do more - they run a...business making linens for hotels in Vietnam, sell nice handicrafts, and cater events. The bakery sells bread throughout Hanoi, and it's excellent. They have a German baker who has brought in equipment, it seems, and knowledge. There is a sunday brunch now, that probably will be great. I highly recommend going here if you are visiting Hanoi (or living in Hanoi). And it's very near West Lake. The owner and workers are very interesting to talk to. Overall a great place to eat and visit.More
