This is local food for Thais. Tourists are plentiful too. The Northern Thai dishes are authentic and inexpensive. I'll certainly eat there again the next time I'm in Chiang Mai.

Aroon (Rai) became a favourite of ours on a previous trip to Chiang Mai and we were so looking forward to going back again. We had lunch there a couple of times this trip, and the food was just the same as we remembered - delicious, plentiful, served quickly and very tasty! They have arguably the best Khao Soi in... They promise the best curry, probably it is. Not a luxury restaurant, but very delicious food. Ask them to give you a table in the second hall, far from the noisy and dirty road.

Pros: inexpensive, tasty authentic local Thai food. Served very rapidly (by Thai standards). English speaking staff Cons: Tables nearest street will suffer from tuk tuk fumes Local guide mentioned this place, and we were happy to eat dinner here. Several unique/regional dishes as well as Thai regulars (Tam Yam, larb gai,...). Inexpensive, good Thai food, in simple family food court... More

It was simple delicious local food served in plastic bowls and on plastic tables which was just what we ordered. Service was quick but friendly and the place was full not only of locals but also Tourists. We made sure... More

Spacious restaurant. You can order a la carte or choose from the pre-cooked food on display. I chose a pork green curry and sausage from the latter. Very very tasty curry. Clean toilets too.

Ive been at Aroon Rai for dinner, very easy to locate, really close from Thai Pae Gate. Their specialty are the curry dishes. I tried the Curry Pork with gengibre, it was good. It also have a lot more to choose,! Worth the visit

Nice family restaurant situated near Chiang Mai old city moat. I traveled around Thailand a lot nut I think they serve the best Stir Fried Crispy Basil with Pork and Black Preserved Egg (ไข่เยี่ยวม้ากะเพรากรอบ ) in Thailand. They also serve delicious Durian ice cream.

We walked through Chiang Mai for a few hours on a steamy hot day. We found our way to Aroon Rai for lunch, which was such an awesome local break from the brutally hot day. The curries are delicious especially the traditional northern pork curry and the Indian chicken curry. While we did not taste the sausages, they looked and... More
