I visited the restaurant with my Father-In-Law, we went to try the original General Tso's Chicken. The location is within walking distance of the Zhongshan Elementary School MRT station (orange line), and is located on the 2nd floor of an elevator building (although we walked the one flight of stairs). The restaurant is a bit dated, but still a nice... More

My favorite Chinese-American food is General Tso's chicken. I wanted to go to the original location and see how it was made and how it tasted. So I flew to Taipei, Taiwan and searced for the original location and the original creator, Chef Peng, established in 1955. I was not disappointed. The dish was very different from the American version.... More

We dined here because of a documentary on General Tso's Chicken we watched. But the GTC here tastes nothing like what you get in the US. In fact the Korean Fried Chicken we had the next day tasted more like GTC! Otherwise the food at Peng's is good and tastes a lot like what you get in Hunan but nothing... More

Some friends and colleagues took us to this restaurant when we were in Taipei, so we had locals to help understand what each dish was. That certainly helped; however, I don't think it would have been entirely necessary. There are pictures and English translations in the very extensive menu. As others have said, they have a specialty which is basically... More

If you have seen the documentary about the story of General Tso chicken (Who is General Tso, 2014), you must come try the restaurants founded by the creator of General Tso chicken. This one is the very first one he founded. The food was very delicious, and the settings were spacious and quiet for conversations.

We went here with a lot of excitement since we expected the restaurant of the chef who created General Tso's Chicken would be top notch, but it was a disappointing experience. Except for the General Tso Chicken, the food quality was overall subpar for a country known for the eating experiences. We tried a number of dishes only to be... More

My husband just returned from a 2 weeks visit to Taiwan and he insisted on visiting the Pen's Gourmet & Bnaquet resstaurant due to the recent documentary 'In Search of General Tsao' focusing on the popular Chinese American dish General Tsao's Chicken available at almost every single Chinese restaurant in the USA. It actually started at this restaurant in Taipei... More

We enjoyed our dinner here and found the food to be very flavorful. I note that the restaurant is no longer called Peng Yuan Hunan Restaurant, which is consistent with the fact that although the original chef was of Hunan origin and invented General Tso's chicken, in order to survive and be competitive the restaurant has had to adapt to... This place's claim to fame is that the founder invented General Tso's Chicken. There's some debate about this, but I don't really care. It was really good. Unlike the US version, it's not heavily breaded and deep fried. You must try that here! There's also a tofu dish that is worth trying. I don't remember the name, but it is... More
