I've always liked the Mandarin. It has good food, a cute ambiance, and decent service. I don't frequent here as much as I should, given my favorable views on it. It seems to slip through the cracks of Ames dining, but I've always found it a pleasant place to eat.

Sunday dinner with my freshman daughter. Typical options for Chinese restaurant. Generous portions. Great service and great flavor.

This was the first Chinese restaurant I visited with my friends when I move to Ames in August, 2012. Since then I have visited this place a lot of times. I really love their Kung pao Chicken. Service is OK and ambience is good. You will find a lot of Chinese restaurants in Ames with better food and price.

This is locally owned and managed place close to downtown. The lunch menu is a great buy and a pleasant meal. The service is outstanding and the owners always treat you as friends. The dinner menu is with table cloth service and an expanded selection. The family style is a favorite. The lobby and dining room are always clean and... More

Great food, great service. Highly recommend it. I am only giving 4 stars because the crab Rangoon's seemed to be mostly if not all cream cheese and no crab.

Locally owned, very nice staff. Love the food, the Hot and Sour soup is terrific as well as the Crab Rangoon and Eggrolls. If you are luck enough to have Liz serve you, she is very efficient and nice but often times works a lot of tables. She treats our grandkids like family -- has a little special treat for... More

We usually do take-out food from this place, which I personally think is the best Chinese food in Ames. Atmosphere of the restaurant, itself, is not stellar, but OK. Love the pot stickers.

Longtime favorite for sit-down Chinese. The special for 2 is perfect with Mongolian Beef, Garlic Chicken, sizzling rice soup and egg roll or pot stickers. Mongolian Beef version is a favorite with no spicy heat, sweet sauce, and those rice noodles that seem like elongated plastic peanuts. Garlic Chicken very good also although I'm not a big fan of mushrooms.... More

After not being here for months I came back and its still as good or better than it was months ago. Marcydiner tantrum scale of 5/5-no screaming kids. Food is hot, fresh and very good, service is friendly. Very clean dining area.

Went here for dinner. Staff is very nice , food is yucky. Had a house special with shrimp, beef and chicken. It was gelatinous and flavorless. Got some chili paste to liven up the flavor and the paste was so mild you could eat it by the spoonful . Others had the orange chicken which had no orange flavor. One... More
