The help is typically friendly, the food is nothing out of this world any longer. The beautiful black and white floors need a good cleaning.

This place was recommended by the hotel and turned out to be a great place to take our grandkids. Among all of us we had chicken strips, mini corn dogs, hamburgers, and a tenderloin. All tasted good but was a little expensive.

Good food and service. Nostalgic atmosphere with Soda fountain and kid friendly. Inexpensive, good food and friendly staff.

This place gave a friendly 50's kind of feel. We were just there for the ice cream and it was delicious.

Dropped in to the Sugar Shack during our Rte 6 River to River Retro Road trip. Was late for breakfast and early for lunch but we're starving, so hubby and I split a chicken salad sandwich and onion rings and a malt and strawberry shake. So glad we did! OMG was the BEST chicken salad sandwich I has ever had... More

Had recently moved to area and wanted to check this place out. Not a fan and no plans to return. My mom tried the Cheese Frenchee and the description said nothing about mayonnaise - tons of it. Had more mayo than cheese. She also ordered the patty melt since she had never tried the Cheese Frenchee and wanted backup. Patty... More

Good food at a reasonable price. Love their Cheese Frenchee and tenderloins. Hubby likes their Hot Beef Sandwich w/mashed potatoes and gravy. Milk shakes are large and very good. Really enjoy their Tuesday night Cruise Night with classic cars.

We visited here recently while in Des Moines for statewide volleyball finals. I had read reviews but never stopped...I'm glad we finally did. This place has the decor of a 50s/60s diner and the staff is super friendly. We actually stopped here twice- the first time just for ice cream and then we returned for lunch. For both visits we... Good Denver omelet and country potatoes and pancakes and hash browns. Bacon was so so. Atmosphere is 50's diner with checkered floor and a soda fountain. Have also eaten lunch of a very good fresh made hamburger and very good onion rings. Will be going back to try other items soon. Probably the tenderloin.
