Excellent coffee, interesting books, affordable food, and a community atmosphere. This is one of my regular cafes. Pay one forward if you can because they serve free meals to those who cant afford it.

This coffee shop works directly and indirectly to feed those with limited resources. Also has book and poetry readings in the evening. Food is above average for a coffee shop with good biscuits and breads. Nice people.
Bookshop, community hub, and trendy cafe rolled into one. Potter's House boasts great food (also veggie/vegan friendly) and extremely friendly staff. The atmosphere is ideal for a leisurely weekend brunch or some quiet study or reading in a hip neighborhood.

This place is always buzzing with the friendly sound of earnest goodness and genuine hope for a better world. Books to match and a small selection of trade aid products. Oh, and the coffee is really excellent. Some of the best in DC.
