A classic tavern with very solid food and drink. Our waiter actually remembered us from several months back. Think shepherds pie, meatloaf, pot roast, salmon - all prepared perfectly. It is a tavern yet the food is not heavy or greasy - just hearty. Wine list is very approachable and very parable with the food. Service is busy and attentive.... More

We arrived in Georgetown in mid afternoon so were keen to book a table for dinner. My wife discovered this place and feared that it may be something of a tourist trap. This was certainly not the case with good service and quality food being the order of the day. My wife had the tuna for starter and declared it... More

Had a dinner reservation on sat. night. Arrived on time. Two tables were open, but we were told to wait at the overcrowded bar. After a couple of other parties who came in after us were seated, we got a table 15 minutes late. No apologies. Our server was fantastic. He is one of the servers who has been there... More

My son and I went for dinner on a Saturday night. Parked in a nearby garage. Martin's was packed, although we didn't have to wait very long for a table. They squeeze as many people as they can into this place. The food was pretty good, and we liked the atmosphere. Our 2 person table was TINY. Very hard to... More

Had lunch here, the service was very good, very attentive without being overbearing. There is a wide selection on the menu and prices are reasonable. We sat in the Bradlee booth - a little bit of nostalgic newspaper history.

We went on a Monday evening but it was still very busy. Fortunately for us, Monday is when Billy Forte works as the Maitre D'. Great character and shared my love of Rugby, which is unusual Stateside. All I can say is that we were made so welcome, the food was great and the atmosphere and history made it memorable.... More

In the nice quarters of Georgetown this restaurant from 1933 is a famous spot. JFK and Jacqueline got engaged in of the booths. And many presidents have been here. I was surprised seeing mostly locals eating here. The food was good and the service was excellent!

My wife and I stayed at Georgetown Inn for a weekend visit to see our daughter a student at Georgetown University. We had dinner and breakfast (twice) at Martin's which was a block away from the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. First off, the place reeks of tradition- great mahogany bar, cozy tables and those famous booths with plaques... More

Loved Martins Tavern. Called in for a drink after reading about it in Lonely planet and made a booking for dinner that night. The Christmas decorations were amazing and really set the scene for a wonderful festive season. The menu was comprehensive and the wines very reasonably priced. The staff were attentive, food fantastic. We walked from the Melrose Georgetown... More

If you want to hit a spot with solid food that reeks of D.C. history in a good way-you have to do Billy Martin's. The surf and turf (filet and crab cakes) were fantastic. As was the bread pudding for dessert. Billy Forte is the man on Monday and ask for the Rumble Seat or booth 3 to soak in... More
