I had been here years ago and was in between meetings in Georgetown. I popped in and sat at the bar. Great fast service. My summer rolls came out quickly and were good. Bar tender was very attentive (but I was half of his customer...More

Ate there on a Saturday night with reservations. Limited beer selection for a bar and grill. Only one IPA available. Lame. Started with the crab soup. Just a few strings of crab meat thrown into a Progressive tomato soup can. Sad. Daughter with a $16...More

There was a sour smell of beer when you walk in which was unappealing and gave the impression of a tired, unclean restaurant. Excellent service but the food was average. Large portions but not great taste. Time for a revamp of this long standing institution.

Stopped in here for a couple beers on a Saturday afternoon while waiting for a dinner reservation down the street. Was taken very good care of by a man named Steve S at the bar. Beers were ice cold, and there is no waiting for...More

Especially enjoyed the atmosphere, historic touch. Service was good. Food was good. Recommend fish tacos or Reuben sandwich. Crab-cake was just ok, but I'm picky when it comes to a good crab-cake. Good choice for lunch if you're in Georgetown.

Best part about J. Paul's is the location. This isn't a dig at the food - that's great too - but a table next to the open window on a sunny G-town day is tough to beat, experience-wise. Burgers are great, beer is cold and...More

Food was fine. Nothing great. Service was good. They were out of ice cream so we did not want dessert which was very disappointing.

A very nice place to enjoy a quick evening with drinks and music. A fair selection of starters. Not too much though, especially for vegetarians. Friendly service but can be quicker than it was.

J. Paul’s is Washington’s quintessential turn of the century American Dining Saloon. The J. Paul’s bar in Georgetown is itself a 100 year old mahogany shotgun bar, built by the Brunswick Balke Coolander Company and was previously housed in a grand saloon in the Chicago stockyards. Many will swear over their scotch that Al Capone himself bellied up to that very bar. Antique brass elevator doors from New York’s Waldorf Astoria frame the back dining room.

A few short blocks from the Potomac River, in the heart of fashionable Georgetown, the original J. Paul’s has become an institution. Every day, politicians, journalists, artists, business people and Washington personalities share tables with students, tourists and ex-Pats in the nation’s capital. Don't miss out on a visit to this DC institution!
