A large group of us from a conference headed out to a late night dinner here and I was pleasantly surprised. I was concerned that this would be some swanky, high end place, but it was surprisingly down to earth and enjoyable. The decor was interesting and historical, the menu had a broad selection that kept all of us happy,... More

Super cool, quaint spot with sweet decor and a menu that has something for everyone. Looks high end but has very average pricing. Check it out

Noisy place and we were a party of four seated near the kitchen door. What is it with these places giving you the worst table and if you don't complain, the table is yours. All entrees came out warm to cold like they had been forgotten due to the busyness of the server. One plate was sent back twice. It... More

Great american food and seafood. I had a delicious crab cake sandwich, and a superb cheese cake for dessert. The staff is very friendly and they put you in a great mood with their cheerfulness. The place has a great ambiance.

Very friendly staff. Always right on top of my needs. The food is always spot on. I eat here every time I'm in DC. Just ordered an appetizer and it was out in two minutes.

We went during Happy Hour and enjoyed some of the best local oysters. The drinks were cold and refreshing and the seafood was worth the price.

After reading some of the reviews I was a little Leary but it was unfounded. The place had our reservation and the service was quite good. One of our party was fussy about how they wanted the entree cooked and it was just as requested. The food was good but this is a lively bar type place not a rendition... More

Super friendly bartender when we stopped in on a Friday night. He made us feel really welcome. We would have stayed longer than one drink but we had a reservation elsewhere. I think the beer list could be improved a bit but we all found something to try.

We had lunch here on a very busy Sunday and unfortunately the service was a disaster. The kitchen was backed up at least 45 minutes and our poor waitress had to deal with the hungry customers. When our order finally came, one order was completely wrong, Too bad because 5 out of the 6 meals were very good! We were... More

Great lunch meal. The service could have been a little better, but the good food made up for what they lacked in service! We had sauteed mussels in a lobster and garlic with kale and tomatoes that was delicious. Steamed clams were also very good. The crab cakes were amazing! They were like no other crab cake I have very had.... More

J. Paul’s is Washington’s quintessential turn of the century American Dining Saloon. The J. Paul’s bar in Georgetown is itself a 100 year old mahogany shotgun bar, built by the Brunswick Balke Coolander Company and was previously housed in a grand saloon in the Chicago stockyards. Many will swear over their scotch that Al Capone himself bellied up to that very bar. Antique brass elevator doors from New York’s Waldorf Astoria frame the back dining room.

A few short blocks from the Potomac River, in the heart of fashionable Georgetown, the original J. Paul’s has become an institution. Every day, politicians, journalists, artists, business people and Washington personalities share tables with students, tourists and ex-Pats in the nation’s capital. Don't miss out on a visit to this DC institution!
