If your understanding of Japanese food starts with teriyaki and ends with sushi, prepare to be amazed. This quiet restaurant is much closer to a true Japanese Izakaya than anything I've found in the States. The menu is small, usually a few raw options, some vegetable sides, broiled items, and a few treats like rice balls and skewers. I barely... More

My husband and I accidentally stumbling upon this little hidden gem. We sat at "sushi bar", not exactly since they don't serve sushi. We arrived on a Wednesday night around 6:30pm and just in time as we sat down, the crowd starts to form and wait for table started. We order the largest order of sashimi and the amount of... More

The food was excellent in Izakaya ,we ordered dozens small dishes and shared, and the price is very reasonable. Not like most Japanese here very western, but like a small pub people go there after work. Will definitely try again if I get a chance.👍🏼

Came here for dinner on a Sunday night. They open at 5 pm and we came at 5 pm worried it would be packed since they do not take reservations. You don't really have to worry about getting a table. We order a few things and among them were: Uni with Quail Egg $19 Fried Baby Octopus $11 Sashimi $39... More

This a pleasant busy place to eat. The food was excellent and not overly westernised. The fish oysters and pork were excellent with thought and care taken in presentation and the flavours utilised. Not being an expert in this type of cuisine I might have missed some of the subtleties between soy sauces and more unusual flavours but overall the... More

I was brought here by a friend who lives in DC, and both of us have previously traveled to Japan. The food here is absolutely fantastic. A nice mix of totally authentic and things with a bit of western twist. We ordered close to a dozen different things to try, and there wasn't a single bad dish among them. The... More

Clean open space and quality japanese food. Not your typical yakitori, okonomiyaki drinking establishment you think of when you hear "izakaya". Think small plates with beautiful, well thought out food and a great beer list.

Excellent. Especially the tuna and salmon. All fish is fresh and expertly prepared and presented. It's a little hard to find. It's in a row house near the corner of 15th and V streets, NW. There is a red lantern out front and it's next to a taco place. Defenitely try this place, it's delicious!

My wife and I went to Izakaya Seki a few night ago before a concert at Lincoln Theater. We had a superior experience, with top-notch food and service. The concept here is of a small-plates restaurant, where a couple can share and sample a variety of different dishes. We opted for four: sashimi, grilled kalbi ribs, tsukune (grilled chicken meatballs),... More

A friend suggested we try out Izakaya Seki. Went and was able to get two seats at the bar on the lower level. Everyone was very friendly and Mr. Seki is funny. The food was very good and there's a lot of variety. The beef tongue was excellent. The rice balls were good. The salad options are nice and they... More
