The food was absolutely delicious and the service was absolutely awful. We tried a lot of different dishes from the menu and they all tasted amazing. The waiter M’Hammed had an attitude and rushed us from the second we sat down. He did not explain anything to us from the menu. With the prices they charge they need to do a better job of making the whole experience unforgettable. I would think twice about dining there again because of the horrible service. We complained to the manager early on about how our waiter was rushing us after being seated and you would think they would have come and check on us during or after our meal but no one did. We read about the bad service in multiple reviews before going but we were hoping those issues had been taken care of. Sadly they have not.

Very well deserved Michelin star restaurant. The Penn Quarter location is vibrant and close to the centre of town accessible via the Metro. My experience of Rasika with my Stateside family was wonderful. The staff were very efficient and extremely knowledgeable regarding the dinner menu answering all questions. For starters, we were led by our server and received a variety of very tasty initial dishes. For mains, we shared Lamb biryani and Scotland's invention of Chicken tikka masala. Both mains were absolutely superb. The addition of rice, roti and nan bread delivered a very refined combination of perhaps the best curry I have enjoyed.

It has been a few years since we last visited and this was for a private event. The main restaurant was packed as usual, with valet parking must given the area. They have crated with dividers a private room that with small tables can hold around 35-40 people. The menu was quite large with appetizers and entrees including dessert. The majority of food was great and kept coming. Drinks also was served as quickly as required. Given the space, it didn’t take long to want to stretch your legs so there was a lot of walking around. Very nice atmosphere. Restrooms too few for such a restaurant. 2 joint men/women and 1 for just men. Heard a few female customs complain . A great evening with excellent food and service.

What can I say that has not been already said about the “staple restaurant in DC”? It’s known for its consistent, well-prepared, seasoned/spiced food that never grows old and will always leave you with the satisfaction of wanting to return for more. I’ve been to both of their locations for years. I saw that they had changed their menu slightly during my recent visit. I have to say, in my innocence, I had never tried the Palak Chaat when I was first introduced to this restaurant. But after many lunches, dinners, and celebrations here, I would continue to request whatever I had to have this dish first. It's a joy to discover new dishes at Rasika. I've ordered the following dishes, which I know you will be grateful for: Sweet Potato Samosa, Dal Dhungaree, Vegetable Biryani, Lamb Biryani, Tandoori Lamb Chops, Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken Tikka, and Garlic Naan. How could I leave without having the Kesar Pista Kulfi and Homemade Sorbets? You will also receive professionalism in the service and a calm vibe throughout the restaurant. Please don’t take my word for it; try it for yourself.

I went on a night when the place was busy and several large groups had settled into the restaurant. The food is exceptional. I started with a cocktail that was a spin on an old fashioned. You definitely taste a nice pour of bourbon, it may have overpowered the more subtle flavors like cardomom. I decided to go with the tasting menu and I was not disappointed. It starts with small plates, then a thali and a combo of desserts. The small plates included a Palak chat - excellent. As you eat half way through you will notice a bitter that could be the oil but still good. Samosa - This looked like a mini tamale. Creative presentation even if a bit bland. Fish in plantain leaf - Awesome, so perfect and reminded of my mom and i roasting fish in plantains in south India. This alone made it worthwhile. Chicken reshmi kabob - done to perfection with a nick kick Thali - Overall good except the meat dishes especially the lamb was over salted. The navratan korma was some of the best. Chicken tikka was as expected. Deserts - These were so good. The date pudding and black toffee toasted coconut, cardomom ice cream and even the gulab jamun were perfect. The service was exceptional, attentive wait staff, prompt clearing of dishes after each course and turn over of tables after a group left. Overall highly recommend and would go back again without reservation or maybe with one.

The food was next level of deliciousness . The service however was horrible. The waiter (M’Hammed ) was rushing us to order and he had an attitude when politely was told to give us a couple of minutes just 5 minutes after we were seated. I had to get up and ask the host to convey to the manager and ask the waiter serving us to change his attitude. He became fake nice after that. Advice to management, please hire the right service personnel to ensure pleasant experience for your customers that are spending top dollar for one of the best Indian food establishment in the DC metro area.

Our daughter selected this restaurant to celebrate her birthday with family. When we read the dress code requirements: no shorts for men, no athletic wear, etc., we were a little intimidated and concerned. However, when we arrived, we were greeted by a gracious host. Our waiter did an exceptional job explaining differences in dishes and making recommendations. We were all particularly impressed with the spinach appetizer. And, the halibut curry hit all the right notes with just the right amount of heat balanced with a creamy broth.

Interesting experience, in a good way. Not my favorite design (modern with a giant mudra hand sculpture hanging from the ceiling) but that did not interfere with the vibe which was modern Indian food. The cuisine was streamlined in presentation and clean to the palate (borderline bland). The waitstaff was attentive if not a tad aggressive pursuing more drinks and desert orders.

Finally made it to Rasika and enjoyed everything. The Black Rice Truffle Dosa, Shrimp Manga Curry, and Butter Chicken were delicious. Drinks took a while to be served but then the restaurant was very busy. As soon as a table was cleared another group was seated. Beautiful spot in a great DC West End location. Ideal for couples and groups. Will be back for the Palak Chaat and to try more from the menu.

Absolutely outstanding restaurant, we at booking for 8.00pm but had to wait, the manager apologised and sent drinks for all 4 of us, as we had bit longer he then sent two starters free too. The food was excellent, palak chaat which I have never had before was tantalising on your tongue, Halibut goan curry nicely cooked to perfection and the sauce was delicious, as was the chicken tikka masala. Our overall experience was positive and it was a great meal which everyone enjoyed. Service was fantastic from staff. If you Washington it’s worth visiting

I was traveling for business and made a solo reservation on a Friday night to make sure I had somewhere to eat. When I arrived, the bar was not full, so I elected to eat there, and allow them to seat a couple at a table I would have otherwise occupied. Food and service were excellent. I ate way more than I should have, simply because it all tasted so good. There were others eating at the bar, so I didn't feel silly or rushed being there solo. The only problem with eating here by yourself is that you simply can't try as many dishes as you would if you were with someone else. Oh well. One of my favorite places in DC. Can't wait to go back.

This was by far the best Indian food I have had since I moved to the area. Not only was the food fabulous, but the staff (Mohammad was our waiter) was a 10+. Not only were all of his recommendations spot on, but he was thoughtful enough to bring tasters to the table when we couldn't decide what to eat next. The Palak Chaat was outstanding paired with the Goat Cheese Kulsha, The Black Cod was insanely delish and their Chicken Tikka Masala was the best I've had. In addition, the Tawa Baingan (eggplant) was yummy and the Cauliflower Bezule was insane. You will not be disappointed in anything you try here. I can't wait to go back and try more things on the menu.

Ordered takeout. They forgot two items on our order and I didn't notice until I got home. When I called they offered a refund, but I said I would walk back and get the missing items. As I was walking back I realized that they had checked off the items on the receipt, but the missing items had no check marks. I showed this to them when I arrived. The woman at the door was apologetic and friendly...but the man in a suit, who I can only assume was the manager shrugged and said "sometimes these things happen." No apology and not a care in the world for the customer. Terrible customer service. He acted as if it was an inconvenience to him that I had to come back to get my order.

We love Rasika...both locations. But tonight we dressed up, went to the New Hampshire Ave location and my boyfriend of 3 years proposed! What's really amazing is the waiter watched from across the room and while my boyfriend was still on his knee, brought us 2 glasses of champagne free! Plus 2 desserts for free to celebrate. This is a fabulous place. Good is superb too. Always start with the Palek Chat (sp?), Fried spinach and onions in a delicate white sauce. Yummo. I had the Paneer Massadum (vegetarian) cottage cheese blocks in a delicious cream sauce. Scrumptious. He had the Red Snapper masala. Very good . Definitely was spicy but he ate every bite. They brought us gulab gamun (cardamom donut-balls) and ice cream and a warm date cake with whipped cream and strawberries for our surprise dessert. Oh my word!! It doesn't get any better than this. Please, do yourself a favor and try this place or the sister location. You will find it is a treasure.

My wife and I live in the UK and every time we return to Washington DC (where my wife was born) we love to go to Rasika West End and every time we go we love the place even more! Last night (Aug 29) we had the taster menu and each dish was superb - particularly the black cod (worth every dime of the supplement). As per usual, the service was attentive, informative (we have one of the restaurants cookbooks at home and often ask if dishes are in there, to which the response is most often yes), and polite. We look forward to returning next time we’re in town!
