I went to meet an old friend in DC and mentioned I thought she was going to take me to a hipster place and she was all oh I totally can! So off to The Gibson we went. It's a speakeasy and from what I gather that means there is no sign and you have to tell the bouncer you... More

Place has an atmosphere but it was ruined immediately after we met the lady next the door. She was definitely in bad mood trying squeeze 6 people to small corridor so she can check all ours IDs. The story continues with pouring me with cocktail saying no word to excuse not redoing the affected cocktail etc ....

Cocktails are superb and the atmosphere is even better. Service is kind and attentive. Price is reasonable. Highly recommend.

A big thing to note if you're considering going to The Gibson is that they do not serve food (except for pork rinds, chips, and nuts) - cocktails only. Definitely a place for pre- or post-meal, but don't plan on ordering dinner. The speakeasy concept is cool, and, I think, well executed in the unmarked door and the dark, '20s... More

I think when a place has special cocktails it's best to ask questions just so you know what you're getting yourself into. This place is absolutely beautiful inside. The outside is an unmarked door, but the horde of people outside is the indicator that you've reached your destination. They have a small food menu, but I'd say this place is... More

Late in December I dress up for the annual birthday rendezvous with my culinary guide to the DC food scene. The celebration always commences with cocktails at The Gibson – a quiet, mysterious, refined tribute to the art of the cocktail

Our friends took us here on our recent visit to D.C. Great hidden gem that doesn't open until 6pm and won't let you in without an i.d. or reservation. No name on outside so you have to go by address. Inside is beautiful and drink menu interesting.prices $11-17 and definitely worth it.

Very intimate atmosphere. Perfect for when you are trying to converse with your company. Dan was magnificent - a true aficionado in his field.

I am in town and wanted to meet up with a local friend who recommended this bar later in the evening. We didn't have reservations but they got us in; we had great drinks, amazing service, and good conversation (atmosphere is very conducive to this) all night! I highly recommend asking and trusting the staff and they will make you... More

Nice speak easy experience. Good looked delicious and drinks were quality. Great way to start the night before getting a bit more rowdy.
