Margo was a terrific waitress and patiently let us taste three wines till we settled in on our choice. The atmosphere was warm and cozy as was the food. Walking distance from our hotel through a trendy neighborhood. Would highly recommend it

Everything was just amazing. 10/10 some of the best food I've ever had. There was a decent wine selection that really just help reinforce how great it was.

On October 6th, 2016, we hosted a group of 9 people we had never met and Joyce was our very talented, patient and skilled server. We were all in town for an event and had never been to Lavagna. Our group numbers kept fluctuating all day from 12+ to less than 8 - we ended with 9. The restaurant was... More

We loved our dinners. I had the ravioli with runny egg which was fantastic. My daughter had gluten free pasta and they let her switch out the mussels and get chicken in that entree. Very accommodating and friendly. Great wine. We are leftovers for lunch the next day.

While visting DC we found this fun street with lots of restaurants. We decided on this one and we're very pleased. I started out with the pumpkin and apple soup which I enjoyed. Then I had the spaghetti and my husband had another pasta dish. He had a bite of mine and agreed it was the BEST!

Definitely check out the cocktail menu here especially the prosecco one. So nice to enjoy out on the patio with dinner. The pasta was great too. I enjoyed the spaghetti shrimp one. Dessert was fine but the mains were better.

To start I should say I grew up in New Jersey with an Italian mother and this place was a couple steps ahead of her! The pasta was cooked just right (al dente), the sauces were paired perfectly with our wine and the service was great!

Happy hours before dinner elsewhere in the Barracks Row neighborhood. Bar is up a flight of stairs. Small area up there but not overly busy the day of our visit. Quiet too. Bartender was friendly, easy-going and helpful to us about our order and answering our questions about the neighborhood and activities in the area. We enjoyed our drinks and... More

We went to Lavagna for the Restaurant Week (build your own three-course menu $35 per person) on August 19 2016. Dinner was poor quality. It was the third time we went for dinner to Lavagna. The first two times everything was good but it was months ago. This restaurant claims to have Italian products and recipes but this is not... More

Description
Lavagna opened with a concept to keep food simple, fresh, and Italian, and now one of DC’s exciting new culinary talents has taken over the burners at Lavagna. Executive Chef Alex Ripley was lured to DC by the booming culinary region where his passion for this industry and for food could easily be recognized. Lavagnas’ team is excited to progress with its newest addition. ‘Farm to table’ is an essential drive of this Virginia born chef. A good portion of his life was spent growing up in the Northern Neck of Virginia; which has instilled a lifelong passion for fresh and locally sourced cuisine. Chef Ripley went on to study the culinary arts at Johnston and Wales, where he learned to develop his own unique style and flair. He continued with his career at many restaurants along the East Coast; Morgan Creek Grill on the Isle of Palms in Charleston, SC, Solas in Raleigh, NC and The Founders Inn Hampton Roads, VA, but began his career as Executive Chef at The Mooring in Kinsale, VA.“The complexity of food begins here in the kitchen,” says the Chef, with an idea, and blossoms into something beautiful with only a few movements of a knife, the stir of a spoon, the sizzle of olive oil, and the commitment to provide delicious culinary treats seasoned with passion and the love of food. My philosophy stands true to this day, ‘Italian Inspired and Locally Created,’ - a process that can only begin with fresh local ingredients, sourcing the best of what is available locally throughout the seasons”“Outgoing and passionate about his culinary vision; Chef Ripley has such energy, enthusiasm and passion for his craft,” Owner, Stephen Cheung. “We are thrilled to welcome him to our team and share our passion for the culinary world.”
