Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

the food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Omar did a great job with our table even when one of us had to take a short hiatus to take a business call and they asked the kitchen to time our entrees accordingly . It...was a business trip in the first place.More

Ask for Omar! We have been to many Michelin restaurants and small diners and the key, aside from great food, is the relationship between us and who helps us. Thank you, Omar! Would welcome you in our home, would be honored to show you the...level of service you gave us!More

Oh wow- I really don't like to write bad reviews...maybe only do one every 5 years. But have to say something about Kingbird. I chose it because Tripadvisor had ranked it #5 in D.C. Maybe that was true at some point in history, but I'd...avoid like the plague now. First the good part, the ambiance is very nice and it is cool modern interior. Now the bad- was seated next to an elderly couple separated by a column, but I heard her coughing then moaning. Became apparent she had vomited in her napkin and nobody was coming to her assistance. Should have walked out then (warning sign #1), but asked for a table change to get down range. My wife was ready to bolt at that point and I should have trusted her judgement. But staff was all very nice, and got us re-situated and a cocktail order placed. But then waited 40 min before cocktails arrived (warning sign #2). It was not that crowded yet either. Cocktails were mediocre. Menu had Eastern and Western Oysters, so I asked waitress where the Eastern Oysters were from - she said British Columbia in Canada. I had to correct her on her geography but she seemed insistent she was right (warning sign #3). I asked her about the fried artichoke and she said "don't get it" (warning sign #4). Then the food came- truly awful (warning sign #5). Oysters were watery. Bone marrow was nothing but split beef bones with some shredded beef stew poured on top. WTF was that? Fried Fois Gras was like some liquid unidentified floating object - also horrific. I got the veal- was breaded, more like a schnitzel. Not good, dry and no flavor. Ordered a bottle of a French white from Loire Valley- another waiter helped in the selection. I asked if he was the sommelier and he said 'no'. So why was he helping us? But it was a decent bottle. It was a nice wine menu too, but evidently staff wasn't educated about it. We didn't say anything during the meal to complain but I guess our looks were on our faces. Did not order dessert but our server brought a complimentary cake, I think as a peace offering. It was ok but nothing special. To add insult to injury the menu is way over-priced for the quality. Those prices would be totally justified for a setting like this... if the food was actually good. The interior of Kingbird is very cool- now all they need is someone to whip this place into shape. At first I thought the poor elderly woman barfing was maybe due to her condition, but later I thought maybe the food? We dine in great restaurants all over the San Francisco Bay Area and in New York City, so I think we have a good basis for rating Kingbird. All I can say is " Calling Gordon Ramsay... SOS!!!"More

We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! Christina was awesome !! The food was exceptional! The Japanese Manhattan was recommended to us and was more than I ever expected out of a cocktail. I don't normally drink mixed drinks. They created a nice dessert...for me since I don't do dairy.More

My daughter and I had a lovely cherry blossom - themed afternoon tea at Kingbird. The tea sandwiches were extraordinary, as were the scones and desserts. Clearly there was much attention paid to the details, which were extraordinary. The table was beautifully decorated with cherry...blossom petals and the tea selection was expansive and delightful. The best part of all was the kind and attentive service we received. Jose was particularly wonderful. When we remember this lovely tea, we will remember his kindness. Top marks all around.More

Our meal was very good and the service, by our waiter Omar, was perfect. We really enjoyed the side dishes, especially the Yukon potatoes, grilled asparagus spears, and macaroni and cheese.

My husband and I dined for Easier Brunch. The chilled lobster was well seasoned. The lamb with au jus was amazing. The desserts were delicious and made with high quality ingredients (I’m a baker, so I know what I’m talking about). I almost forgot about...the liver pate! I ate two servings. The ambience with smooth jazz was fitting for the Easter Brunch. Brian, our server, was very attentive. I will request him next time.More
