This hotel is popular with many of the locals. Meals are just 'Pub' food and not special,It is a tidy building with car parking and a number of rooms.

The Madeira used to be the place to go for a good feed and a drink in Akaroa but not now. We called in for a bite to eat and walked into the bar to have a drink first. The first thing that hit us was the smell of urine. Totally not nice. We got a drink from the bar,... More

The restaurant is a new addition to the hotel. We waited 50 minutes at lunch AFTER ordering to get two of the four dishes. The men were served...the women waited another 20 minutes, and told them after the men were almost done to cancel the order. They ended up bringing them as we were asking for the bill. We were... An old style country pub. Very friendly staff and a pleasant place to enjoy a drink on a chilly day in Akaroa

The inside needs a little TLC. Good place to go if you have some sport to watch, want to play the pokies or pool.

For our dinner I was treated to the best green-lipped mussel dish I have ever had in my 3 trips to the South Island. This was a gorgeous concoction of 1kg of mussels in their shells steamed in a white wine, coconut, chili, red onion sauce served with garlic bread. Sounds simple, but was pure heaven on earth. My new... More

Best chips ever, food was well presented, cooked well, very enjoyable. Only problem was there was a crowd in and the chef is by himself so not very fast at getting food out, be prepared for a wait.

Dined in for a quick bite to eat while watching the rugby on Saturday night. Staff very friendly and food was everything you would expect from a pub meal, quick service. Good range of beers on tap.

We were in town when a rugby test match was televised. We ate here and enjoyed the game with other patrons. Fabulous evening. We had a bar meal which was well cooked and very tasty as a plain bar meal. Lovely staff.

Description
Warm, atmospheric traditional Kiwi pub. Come on in and watch sports, listen to good, live music at the weekends, and enjoy our variety or homemade food. The upstairs hostel is great for meeting new people, enjoying the beauty of Akaroa for a few days, and to enjoy a night out without having to even exit the building!
