This pub was recommended by a friend so we gave it a try! The tomato soup was good but the goulash soup was EXCELLENT! I will return for that soup again while in Budapest. The Sheppard pie was great too. Very nice atmosphere and reasonable prices.

The JOHN BULL SPORTS PUB is a fantastic pub that on any holiday to Budapest we always pay a visit to. A lovely pubby interior,an L shapes room with comfortable seating with decor that runs from old advertising and beer posters and enamels to various pieces of bric a brac around the bar area, they also have outside seating, all in all... Visited with a friend, this pub is down a side street just down from the gold chain bridge. Went in for lunch, great beer, excellent goulash served with bread and I had pickles that where lovely, portions of chips are large. Great pub for during the St Patrick's weekend with the rugby on too! Very friendly, in fact we went... More

Went primarily to watch Sky Sports football but had dinner (really good) and several beers (again really good). Initially staff a bit pushy with food ordering and anxious that you weren't just going to watch the football nursing the same pint for 2 hours but after a while they were really friendly as were the locals.

Watched Chelsea v Man U FA Cup game here. Lots of UK and continental beers available, including Guinness. There are about 6 screens positioned in the bar so you can always see the game.

Popped in as we was all dying for a drink, just happened to coincide with the footy being on, good planning by us boys. The bar had a decent selection to drink and plenty TVs around the place to see the sport

The drinks were fine, the waitress very pleasant and my schnitzel very tasty although our friend had no idea what type of fish was in her fish and chips and another dish looked a tad under cooked so all generally a bit average, having been to a couple of places later on in the trip we realised how expensive this... Nothing bad to tell about this Pub, but maybe it is a bit more hyped tnan it should be. Anyway, the place is cosy, the food is fine. They have quite a big selection of beers, which is definitely an value.

Popped in here after a busy day sightseeing and wish we hadn't bothered. The staff were rude, the drinks lukewarm and they have the cheek to give a note along with the bill saying it would rude of us if we didn't leave them a tip. Wish we'd left a note telling them they need to earn it!

...unless you want to be pointed at, spoken about in Hungarian, eye-rolled at, grunted at and generally made to feel uncomfortable. no surprise there were only 2 other customers in here on a Saturday night. Owner was very rude/strange. certainly no tip left and my partner and I left swiftly to another pub!

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
