Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had dinner at Arany Hordo on our last night in Budapest. Since we do not take meat we ordered grilled fish with grilled vegetables and rice. The food was okay but the service was slow, maybe because the restaurant was almost full. Eventhough we were sitting at a table where the waiters couldn’t miss seeing us, we had to call out to them to ask for drinks. Overall eventhough the food was palatable the ambience was not very inviting , it felt crowded.

Clearly ancient building close to the Matyas Church with a pleasant shady terrace. Good Hungarian basics - we enjoyed our Hortobágyi pancakes, Goulash and cucumber salad. With a large draught beer, mineral water and espresso, the bill came to HUF 8,500 (about A$40) for two. Friendly service.

Stopped by while visiting the Castle District and had a pleasant lunch at an outside table with a beautiful view. The paprika chicken was very tasty and the capuccino hit the stop. Service was quick and prices were reasonable (cappuccino under $3 US). This is a major tourist spot so tour groups are walking by but the restaurant was a pleasant break.

The prices were quite average, if a little overpriced, at £12-£15 for a main but where this restaurant distinguished itself was in its poor and unwelcoming service. The waiters were quite rude and made snide comments when we asked for extra bread and water. When the time came to pay they tried to charge us a different price to what was on the bill under the guise of a dubious “rounding-up” system and then got angry at us when we asked why the numbers didn’t add up. Altogether I don’t really recommend this place and there are better options for cheaper down the road.

We travelled from London to Berlin; then Vienna; Prague and then Budapest. Aranyaka Hardo is in a good location in Buda.Very unfriendly waiter. In a hurry and everything was took much trouble. Average food, nothing special. And to cap it off - a mandatory 13% service charge. We went to Jamie Oliver’s (50 mtrs down the road) the next day - and had excellent service in a better environment (service charge is not mandatory, but we left over 13%!)

I had a lunch there with my family. The 2 Cesar salads were absolutely awful, full of old gem lettuce pieces, 2 tomatoes, no cucumber and a rather bad salad dressing. On top of it, cold chicken breast pieces and many croutons. The goulash soup was rather poor as well. 3 pieces of beef swimming in a pool of hot liquid, no potato in it and full of carrott chunks.
The service was average. They were friendly however the waiter promised my salad won't have croutons in it (as I cannot eat gluten) yet when he brought it out, my sald was full of croutons. When I complained he said "Oh just remove the unwanted bits from your plate". We were charged almost £30.00 for this rather awful food. Don't go there!

The reviews stating the food is bland is just confusing to me.
The food has always been flavourful.
From the goulash soup to the beef stew, schnitzel (which is my favourite since it’s been added to the menu), chicken paprikas, cucumber salad, and cherry strudel are all amazing. My husbands side of the family is Hungarian and i know what good Hungarian food tastes like.
We have been here MANY times over the years and especially over the last 2 weeks and you can see the difference in service between some.
Some people are downright rude to servers and frankly what do you expect???
We are friendly and patient with any server in any restaurant.
Everything we have eaten here has been hot, tasty and authentic.
The servers are happy to engage in conversation.
Please come here with an open mind and happy attitude.

Paid €40 for a platter to share but it was bland amd cold! We were given free drinks for the poor service but just not worth it.
Also 1e% service charge added, which was compensated by the drinks charge, however, not worth our hard earned 40euros at all.
Must have been frozen food that was warmed up then some sauce poured over, which was just as bad.
Please sort out your menu.
Sorry to say I would not recommend at all.

Quaint place near Fisherman’s Bastion with lovely outdoor patio. However, the food is mediocre and pricey and they add an automatic 13% service charge. Not to mention they charged for salad dressing for my horribly under dressed salad. When we questioned the charge they just shrugged their shoulders and said they wouldn’t remove it. They clearly aren’t interested I return guests.

The restaurant look quite nice from the outside, but when we entered in, we were surprised by the silence inside - no musiy, even quite, now discussion among a few guests there ...
The meal was not good, we ordered goulash soup, was salty and washy, bread was at least two days old. Veal was hard. Prices very high (7EUR for a small goulash soup, 20EUR for veal stroganov with croquetes).
It is a shame to run such restaurant on a perfect place just above the fishermans bastion ... do not recommend to visit !

Enjoyed a piping hot bowl of goulash soup and chicken paprikas that was served promptly and kindly. The food was tasty and well prepared, the service efficient and helpful. We’ll be back.

A tourist "half trap", the food wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. I got the goulash, there was the small option in the cup, and the big one in the pot. I got the big one for 3500 UHF: 6 Pieces of carrots, 6 Pieces of potatoes, six small pieces of meat. Basically there was only broth. Friendly waiters but that's not enough. I don't recommend it

We had lunch here after visiting Buda Castle, and what a disappointment! The service was friendly but slow, and the food was bland. My dish (pasta With tomato, basil, and mozzarella) had no flavor. They did not put any basil or salt on the pasta. The tomato sauce was bland… it was like eating a blank sheet of paper. The dishes we had looked nothing like pictures on their website. Our other dish (grilled chicken with tomatoes and cheese) was also bland… not even salted… Awful… The prices are reasonable, but the food is bad. We can’t recommend this place. Go elsewhere.

Lovely place to try some authentic Hungarian dishes. Very reasonably priced food and drink. Great goulash! Not a very good place for vegetarians though as most dishes contain meat. The restaurant feels very rustic and family friendly with a casual atmosphere. Located close to the Basilica and top of the Funicular

Arany Hordo is a nice little hole-in-the-wall authentic Hungarian restaurant. The food and service were excellent. I highly recommend the Hungarian Leshko with sausage and the sour cherry streudel with vanilla sauce. Food quality is top notch and the service was fast, professional, and friendly.
