Dry and over cooked food. Extra stuff on the bill (they bring food on the table and let you know that it belongs but then they charge for it, a lot). Food kinda ok but terribly overpriced! Service sort of ok. Not recommended!

I'd been walking solidly around Budapest for some time – on both sides of the Danube – and I was in dire need of something to eat and drink, but wandering around the city all day, peering through the windows of a variety of restaurants, I found nothing that really appealed...until I stumbled across Alföldi Vendéglo, a small, quiet, ordinary... Went here in the first night of our trip to Budapest as it was near our hotel. Waiters were friendly. Hummus and aubergine dips were good and served with plenty of nice pitta. We had the lamb plate for two such was a whole leg of lamb, so tender you could cut with a spoon and it came with rice... More

The receptionist at the Hotel we stayed at recommended this restaurant as it was my mother and father in-laws 49th wedding anniversary and rang to make a reservation. When we arrived they had flowers on the table and at the end of the meal came out with a lovely complimentary cake and candles. In between all this the meal we... More

We walked by a few restaurants and decided to eat here. The waiter sat us down, took our drink orders and was quick getting the drinks. He was very friendly offering his advice. I opted for the lamb kebabs with rice, it came as 3 kebabs on top of rice with a little side salad. The rice was probably the... More

No year without going to Alföldi. This year, though, came as a surprise. New management, new menu. Apparently, some Hungarian dishes are still on offer, but Hummus sneaked in, eggplant salat with warm pita bread and other oriental dishes. Later I found that "Jimmy" is now offering grill specialites with an Egyptian background. We stayed anyway and what we ate... More

1st visit was a great experience, great advice and help from waiter (david) and good food at sensible price, very local to where we were staying, so very helpful on 1st night. Decided to go there again the following night because it was good and had totally the opposite experience. Surly waiter (the owner?) poor food, poor service and extra... More

We headed downtown to see The National Hungarian Museum the other day. My friend who works there recommended this restaurant as it is a short walk from there. We had a fabulous 'Ujhazi Tyukhus leves' Chicken soup to you with real chicken and small past. The portion was huge, but as it was cold out side we had it all.... More

What can you say? A very pleasant dining experience with a great ambiance, excellent food and a really helpful waiting staff. It has some interesting traditional Hungarian dishes over and above the predictable goulash. Definitely worth a visit.

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
