Close to the centre you can find Bistro Deryne. We went there for late breakfast and didn't regret it. The ambience is very nice and cozy with smooth jazzy music. You can watch the cook preparing your food which I think is great. They work very routined and everything is very clean. The breakfast menu isn't too variegated but you... More

We turned up without a booking for Sunday brunch and we given a very friendly welcome. Fortunately they managed to find a table for us. I had Mum's chicken paprikas with home made noodles which was delicious. My wife had Wagyu beef which was very tasty. The service was impeccable and were given excellent wine recommendations. There was delightful live... More

We have been visiting the Castle-disctrict with my husband as he grew up there and we decided to have a nice day around. At the end of the trip we felt to have a limonade and a dessert in Deryne which is a well known Bistro in Budapest. The service was a complete disaster. Waiters were rude. They came and after... Had a meal with two business colleagues and it was very good - the steaks looked great though just a little too big for us! the other items on the menu offered good choice. and we were got good advice from the waiter on both the food the the very good Hungarian wine.

This has been one of the most pleasant experiences in Budapest. I have visited the city many times in the past but this restaurant has been especially memorable. The menu is not large but the food rises to the standards of the best bistros, if not better, that I visited in the US (beef cheeks Hungarian style with the French... More

Service was average. Nice atmosphere, cosy. We were seated in the basement but we actually liked it better upstairs. We ordered the expensive Agnus steak (12eur/100gr) but it was not worthy as the meat was very chewy and not that soft. Plus they only had min 350gr pieces, nothing smaller. We also ordered the roast piglet and that was excellent.... More

I was for a short visit in Budapest and had been recommended Bistro Déryné by a Hungarian friend. We went there twice during three days; once for lunch and once for dinner. It was just great! Sunday brunch time we were proposed the house's lemonade which was so good. I prefer the plain lemon one. I had a delicious crispy... More

Hello Friend, it is so nice that you found us off the beaten track! Me and my sister, Brigitta, and my mother and father are working 7 days a week with the team to receive reviews like this. I am especially happy to read your lines as our regulars are mostly Hungarians and - apart from the Swedish Ambassador to... More

Being a Danish expat residing in Budapest, I've been to many, many restaurants. In my opinion, this is the place where you get the best steak and meal in Budapest. It comes with a hefty price tag compared to Hungarian prices, with steaks (such as t-bone, New York strip, Rib eye, Wagyu) being somewhere in the 2800-3500Ft/100 grams. Also the... More

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
