I really liked this place. As others have mentioned, you just go in, find a place to sit (go early or make a reservation) and they will bring you beer after beer. The only time you need to order is if you want food. Based on other people's reviews, we ordered the steak tartare, the beer cheese, and the pickled... More

Last night we decided to hit this famous pub in Prague frequented by Vaclav Havel. And on occasion, by Bill Clinton and Angela Merkel. Walked into a cloud of smoke which we wouldn't of course tolerate in The States. Sat down and, within a minute, the bartender had deposited 2 pints at our place and scratched two lines on a... More

I sought this pub out, not far from the old town square, as it was apparently the place to which Vlaclav Havel took President Bill Clinton to show him a genuine Czech pub. It was crowded, smoky and noisy (see the photo) and I realise that all three of these would deter some people. I suspect that it hasn't changed... More

Just on Wednesday proved my experience about the above mentioned: the best beer as per my own personal tasting choice, as usually, crowded with local visitors loving the genius loci, as well as by tourist who were told (allegedly) - it's better to visit "U Zlatého tygra" then to visit Prague Castle (sound like a heresy, oops!). A delicious Pilsem... More

On our 6th visit to Prague, we finally visited this classic haunt. We are tried on Monday but it was packed with locals by 4:30. So Tuesday we arrived around 4 and found it much less crowded. All tables were reserved but most reservations were for later in the evening. The beer man indicated we could sit by him and... More

I feel that it may be unfair to give it a 1 star because we never drank in there as the title says we walked in and it was packed and full of smoke - you could hardly see. The reason I think its unfair is because we are not smokers and especially coming from the UK we are not... More

We sat down and were about to discuss what we wanted when the waiter put 2 pints of beer on front of us and walked off. We thought that strange and soon realised the pub only seemed to serve food and this 1 beer. We started drinking and realised that it was a beer only pub. The beer was very... More

Staying in Stare Mesto (Old Town)

Neighbourhood Profile
Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.
