We have had the pleasure of dining here as a couple and as part of a larger guest list. Fine dining and excellent wines. Not open always so you must book ahead. Excellent hosts and table service. Our travel dates were earlier than the one i selected from the default.

Lucky to attend a family birthday at Rennies The food and service was magnificent and such a lovely host made us all feel well at home. The artworks and gardens were breathtaking, I felt a little rude towards the other guests as I could not tear myself away from walking around the property with so much to admire! Blessed to have experienced such a wonder full piece of Victoria and such a lovely hostess and brilliant artist.. Food was ample and overwhelming choices presented beautifully buffet style. Would definately consider returning for family gatherings again or just to browse the fabulous art and gardens. Thank you for an experience to treasure always!

Words are not enough to do justice to the Dining experience that Marian Rennie offers to her guests. The drive to Rennies from Alexandra is the start of the show as her property is directly in the middle of the breakaway between the old goulburn river and where she now flows. As you head over the hill down into the Acheron valley the views of the Cathedral Range in the background are stunning. On Arrival you will first notice the gardens which are a definite feature of Rennies. Like an Oasis in amongst farm properties , the gardens are a feature of the annual open gardens each year and well worth a wander through on your visit. The restaurant itself is covered in Marians unique artwork which in itself is a feast to the eye. Now dont expect menus or wine lists as you will be in Marians capable hands. Always the freshest locally sourced ingrediants (much from her garden) Marian will enquire about your food/beverage preferences before feeding you like an Italian grandmother. Be sure to pace youself or you will end up feeling like that man in monty python who couldnt handle the mint pattie! The selection on offer will please both carnivores and vegetarians alike regardless of whether it comes from the garden or the woodfired oven. Creative, well presented, tasty and plenty of it is the shortest way to summise it. .... Special thanks also to Marian as our most recent visit (our 7th) was a private lunch for my wifes 50th which was magnificent... nothing was too much trouble and all of our family and friends will echo these sentiments. As locals, Rennies is always the first choice for special occasions or impressing our out of town visitors and its what we compare everything else to in Murrindindi... Must try!!!

Celebrated my 50th Birthday at Rennies on Saturday with 24 family and friends. Marian did not fail to impress (she never has), amazing food, friendly obliging staff, nothing was too much trouble, everyone had a wonderful time, one simply can't go wrong with this place!

The garden is stunning and artwork amazing. This place has a atmosphere that is hard to find these days. A real treat for foodies that want to be surprised with flavor combinations from the garden. Well worth a visit!

This place is a gem. We had a function with around 60 people and enjoyed a sensational night amidst the beautiful artwork at Rennies. Staff were attentive, local wine was excellent and the food delicious. A special night for a special occasion. Thanks Rennies for giving us a night we will always remember with great fondness.

I took my 78 year old mother to this supposed restaurant, which I had booked a table for two. For ten minutes we stood on the restaurant floor unattended as the staff buzzed around us indifferent to our existance. 40 minutes after being shown to our table we were offered a wine list. A crumpled piece of grotty and stained A4 sheet of paper, which the waitress appologised for, because it was their only copy. The cheapest bottle of wine, without provenance was $48 And when were impertinent to ask for a menu, we were told Marion the owner would be be 'making and preparing' a selection. So we left. It is disgrace to hospitality. We drove to Alexandra and ate a lovely meal at the Shamrock Hotel with great service and nowhere near the price of Rennies. And they had more than One copy of their wine list and the dearest bottle of wine was $33, with a pedigree and which I ordered. So unless you wish to not have a choice about what you will oay to eat or love sitting idly without being served for almost an hour, give this farce a miss.

And you had better be quick. The place is only open between October and March, and then only Saturday and Sunday. But things can change, check Marian's website. We were celebrating my best friend's birthday, and because we live in Alexandra it was easy to check the place out beforehand. We were disappointed at first because it was still only September. But because Marian was cooking for a function that night, we were very welcome to come for lunch. We were enchanted, not only by the place but also by Marian. I will not say too much; go and see for yourself. Home cooked gourmet food and the best wines, almost all locally produced. And served at leisure; we spent a wonderful 4 hour Saturday afternoon. Not exactly cheap ($360 for 4) but a most unforgettably meal. It was the seconds best meal we have ever had. And it was a VERY close one. The best one? Christmas dinner at a B&B in London UK. And if you are into art, bring a well loaded credit card with you. I was very tempted. Go and enjoy. PS: Marian's is about 120 km from Melbourne but there is a good caravan park just up the road, or drive to Marysville or Alexandra for a bed.

What a fantastic surprise! Gourmet food presented as a home-cooked meal. Can see why there are so many rave reviews. As for Marian whom the gallery and restaurant is named after she is a delight and a superb artist - the trip was worth it for that alone. Can't believe the one 'terrible' review was at the same place.

We had a private celebration for 22 at Rennie's. Marian and her staff have excelled. We allowed Marian to select the menu and just do her thing. The food just kept coming and was divine. I can't recommend Rennie's highly enough.

Firstly, the review by "mc Melbourne family" is utter bull****. These people clearly have no idea about quality food or dining experience, so please, take no notice of what they are claiming. Perhaps they were the ones who had just "had a bad day" -- maybe the 2 hour or so drive was too much for them to handle that day.. My partner and I have visited rennies a number of times now and can confidently say that the experience is far above any "top end" restaurant you'd find in Melbourne (we live in melbourne and dine out every week). The reason why we always come back to rennies is not only for the outstanding food -- the fresh home grown vegetables, such as juicy onions smothered in rich crimson chutney, or the meat such as slow cooked lamb that falls off the bone and melts decadently against your tongue-- but most of all the reason we come back is for the fantastic service and the extraordinary host. Marian is not only an extremely talented artist, but an exceptional cook who makes each of her customers feel at home. Rather than sitting in a dark restaurant in a dingy city street, at rennies you are surrounded by abundant countryside; you look through the window to see dairy cows, green rolling hills and blooming daffodils, you are greeted by a lovely, friendly, down to earth woman who treats you as a close friend or a family member, and who takes great pleasure in making your time spent at her restaurant truly memorable. Marian crafts each of your food courses the way she crafts her artworks - with meticulous time, love and care -- once you take a bite from her warm home cooked bread you'll know exactly what I'm talking about! I mean, who can argue against a silky brandy panacotta with local blackberries or a home made choclate filled with gooey dates and crunchy walnuts?? If it's a true dining experience with quality, intimacy and charm you're looking for -- rather than just another night out at restaurant -- head to rennies and I promise you won't regit or forget it!!

We visited Rennies for the second time in January. It is something we look forward to every time we holiday in Alexandra!!! Rennies is truly an amazing experience! Marian once again greeted us, our friends and our tribe of children with warmth & hospitality! Marian is unbelievably talented in both the artwork that surrounds you as well as the meals that she serves. Her food is beautifully presented with so much flavour, local produce & variety. Marian, thank you for welcoming us into your home and sharing your many stories with us. My son summed up our night perfectly " That felt like we had just been to a family gathering!" Can't wait to experience Rennies again next year!

This was the third time I've been to Rennies and, if I may say, this restaurant is a key reason why we keep visiting the area. The score: book a table, show up, order some wine and get fed. And fed and fed and fed and fed. If there's a menu to select from, I'm not aware of it. I'm glad there isn't, otherwise I'd be tortured by the choice of one thing over another. The food is mainly local produce, put together on the plate in a way that looks like art and tastes as though every taste bud is simultaneously engaged. Every dish I've had at Rennies has been extraordinarily good. Oh, and across every wall is Marian's vivid pieces of art. In between courses, take the opportunity to head out to the gallery where there is often another artists work on the walls.

We had a beautiful dinner experience at Rennies . We loved the whole experience from the moment we walked through the door. As Marion said "I feed you". we chose the beautiful local wine and Marion served the 4 course dinner which was prepared from local produce. It was fantastic! We were at Rennies for about three hours and thoroughly enjoyed the concept, food and evening. We will be back, thankyou for a great night.

We had a great lunch. Marian produced some of the most fantastic food I have ever had, from her own smoked trout, through to a 12 hour slow cook lamb with beautiful Moroccan flavours. Marian uses seasonal produce from the district. Some great local wines from the Strathbogie Highland. Don't miss this little gem when in the district.
