Decided to go here after reading it was an award winning hotel... and it really lived up to it.
On arrival we were greeted and seated by friendly staff. There is a beautiful wood fire burning on entry which creates such a nice warm feeling.
There are 3 areas you can dine in the bistro, beer garden or cellar. We dined in the bistro, which was lovely. It looked like it had recently been refurbished too.
We loved the option of visiting the cellar underneath the hotel. (which you can also book a table and dine in). You can head down there and pick out a bottle of wine and then take it back to your table to enjoy. Also if you don’t finish the bottle over dinner you can just take it home with you.
The cellar was gorgeous, located under the hotel with access via a ramp in the bistro area. There are plenty of wines to select from. (see images attached)
I was initially going to order the porterhouse steak, but once I saw that this hotel was in the top 15 best places to enjoy a schnitzel in Australia, I had to go the crumbed pork schnitzel with garlic fries (and salad of course). Without a doubt one of the best I’ve ever had, a must try if you love a good schnitty.
Overall a great experience, will definitely be back!

Had been to this pub many years before, and ot was OK. This time it was brilliant. Crowds around the reception appeared to be looking at a knock-back (we had not booked), but the genial host guided us through the throng to a newly-opened cellar section. It was spacious and airey and welcoming cool. Our order was taken promptly with a comprehensive overview of available wines. The food was speedily prepared and was probably some of the best pub grub l have ever eaten. We bought a bottle of our with-meal drink as a pleasing reminder. Well Done Sevenhill Pub.

Lovely country hotel, tasty food and friendly staff. The porterhouse steak was cooked to perfection as was the pork cutlet. For dessert, we shared a magnificent caramel sundae, it was to die for! The serving was huge, it was a meal in itself. Thoroughly recommend visiting when you are in the Clare Valley next.

Whenever we visit the Clare Valley we always dine at this hotel. We have enjoyed our meals but the last two occasions have not been so positive. Our most recent visit was very disappointing. The main courses arrived whereby we mentioned we were still waiting for our entree.... the waitress asked 'did we still want it?' My husband enjoyed his schnitzel , I ordered the 'curry special' which was totally tasteless, pork languishing in a bowl of water, with literally no flavour whatsoever. When the waitress asked how was our meals we were polite but honest. She took offence and became abrupt. We were not offered any further service and our table was left partially cleared. We felt like we were being punished. We paid the full price and left feeling most unhappy. Personally I expect better customer service.

We were booked for lunch at 12noon. The experience started well, seated promptly, friendly staff and drinks were served. Waitress informed us it was table service and she'd be back shortly to take our order. It then went downhill.
Half an hour when by and we were keen to order. We approached the service area asking if we could order 'yes, I'll be there in a sec' Ten minutes went by and we asked if we could at least order food for our young children? 'I'll be there in a sec' I politely mentioned we had been told this, can I just order for our kids here at the bar. 'sorry, we're a bit under the pump'. I smiled and I thought that's not really my problem if the hotel is over booked and under staffed. They then came to our table to take our order.
Our duck spring rolls came out in an ok time, however very small for price, no much filling and were cold. Dipping sauce was nice though. It was a long while until the kids food came. Good serve with some salad. Kids were happy.
Our mains, 6 adults, arrived at 2pm...2 hours since we arrived, very hungry!! Pork belly was nice. Curry was very hot, quite oily and needed yoghurt. Steak was tough, but potatoes and gravy was nice. Pulled pork tacos lacked flavour and the meat was cold.
Our bill was nearly $350. We were very disappointed and the whole experience unfortunately ruined our lunch we were so looking forward too. Service was friendly and I believe they were doing the best they could in an over-booked hotel. However we did see tables come in after us and leave well before us.
We may have been unlucky, but I guess there's plenty of other places to eat in the Clare Valley that we will try next time.

This appeared to be a popular spot, however, having eaten at another hotel in Mintaro the day before, it had a high standard to beat. For us, it didnt. The words on the menu dont always translate into what is served. The Haloumi was small, however, husbands pork snitzel good. Medium size servings. The desserts were (hate to say it), pretty bad. The brownie was very 'cakey' and the 'pavolva' really needed a sledge hammer to cut. Was unfortunately because love desserts.

Went here for lunch on a friend’s recommendation.. ordered beef schnitzels, having read ‘Qantas best schnitzel in Australia’ on their web page. Served whopping sized snitters but they were were ‘dry’.. one was so overcooked it was inedible. Both had sinew to an extent they were difficult to cut with a knife. On quietly raising issue with the Server, the response was, “That’s how we cook our schnitzels here..” and went on to claim the issue was a poor choice of accompaniment that was not wet enough to counterbalance the dryness of the schnitzel. The Server was curt, dismissive & apparently took offence that the issue had been mentioned but will no doubt claim (as it was said to me upon paying) that my partner would not listen.. and that the Server was ‘cut off’ while attempting to explain things. I’m sorry but the staff member is the one who wouldn’t listen to the customer. And the way said staff member ‘vented’ to me at the counter was just plain rude & unprofessional. Service is the issue that was more disappointing than the meal itself. Should’ve gone down the road to Watervale... and won’t be back again.

We were really looking forward to this, but it failed on every level. The food was all cold, tasteless and looked like it was just dumped on our plates. They also got the drink order wrong and the bill. The staff looked like they didn't want to be there and couldn’t work out how to refund the overcharge, so gave it in cash. While not overly expensive, it was costly for what tasted like and looked like cheap microwave meals.

Thanks for taking the time to review us in such a dramatic manner. We are sorry you were not happy with your experience at our venue. On the night in question we did have 2 new staff on for training and we were busier than expected. I would have appreciated this feedback on the night as we would have rather make you happy than have to respond via this forum. The simple overcharge of $2 was easier to refund in cash on the day rather than doing an eftpos transaction.

We were under some pressure to eat between performances at a local festival. Staff were very courteous in responding to our tense enquiries about having our pre-ordered meal ready to be served when we arrived.
Our meal was ready as we’d requested, and was delicious to boot.

Popped in to check out somewhere to go for our anniversary dinner. Looks like a great country pub with your typical dining space. But then we were shown the cellar! What a great dining spot. Enjoyed excellent food and service. Steaks ordered rare came out medium instead but they were more than happy to bring out replacements. No rush special occasion dinner. Thanks Sevenhill Hotel.

This venue is everything that you expect of a nice country pub feel. Unfortunately, the Carona virus restrictions meant we were seated in an old board room which lacked atmosphere due to the bright lights and corporate feel. We did however, understand this may have been a necessity given the Covid times. Our real disappointment was with the food which was served cold and on cold plates. In addition most of our steaks were overcooked. This may have been a sign of the times as no doubt the proprietors were dealing with multiple headaches in terms of changes and maybe new staff. I would give them the benefit of the doubt and visit again though.

Fantastic, we were staying at The Clare Valley Caravan park who recommended this hotel when we arrived, they also explained that the Hotel provides a courtesy bus. We called into the hotel to have a couple of coldies and to enquire about this service. We were greeted by lovely friendly staff who organized collecting for the following day. We were collected by the owner at 5.30pm and dropped at the front door of the hotel, Paul was very friendly and made the ride very enjoyable. The meal was outstanding and very reasonably priced, they also have a selection of local wines, we enjoyed the Shut The Gate Shiraz and even purchased another bottle the following day. Paul was also available on completion of our dinner for our return journey. A wonderful country pub and great hospitality. We will definitely be back. Well done Paul, a credit to you.

We ate here while visiting the Clare Valley. Boy were were so pleasantly surprised. I had the crumbed flathead and garlic fries (yes fish and chips but "wow")! The crumb is thin and seasoned with herbs. The chips ('garlic fries') were dangerously good. My partner ordered the pork cutlet. Throughout the meal we kept saying "It can't be this good can it?" Go here if you want a decent meal. No time fo Ipad's or phones here, just slow chewing and savouring every mouthful. It's just that good. Thanks to the Chef and staff. What a pleasure to have this lovely experience as part of our stay in the Clare, we will be back.

3 ladies staying in Clare - we went for dinner and also lunch too as it was a convenient stop on our winery cycle. The service was very friendly. All the dishes we tried were delicious, especially the salmon and the ginger pudding! The only downside for us was a lack of vegetables/salad on the menu. The only vegetable side offered was peas - we would have liked to see some kind of healthy side or starter to accompany our meals.

Done a revisit to this popular Hotel and enjoyed another great evening and meal. Wife had a Chicken Schnitzel with chips and salad and I had a (GF) Thai Chicken Salad. The wife's meal was a little bit too much for her, but she enjoyed it as well I enjoyed mine and will have it again next time in the area.
We were luck to have the same Waitress look after us as she did two years ago for my birthday gathering in the cellar. A BIG THANK YOU to her.
