Decided to try something a little bit different this year, our island escape was just across the water in the wonderful Waiheke. Our first stop was the highly recommended Mudbrick Vineyard. Despite living in NZ for 13 years this was our first visit to a...vineyard. We started with some tasting with a very knowledgeable gentleman who could explain the history of each wine and although I was driving and had to spit the wine out it was still very interesting. We then moved on to the restaurant and based on a recommendation from a friend we opted for the degustation menu with associated wines ( my wife definitely lucked out here as again I was only tasting not drinking!!). There were a few things I thought I would struggle with as I am not really into seafood but have to say that every course was an absolute taste sensation, I would thoroughly recommend. After the amazing meal we had a walk around the grounds, this was well worth it as the views from the helicopter landing area were just WOW.More

It has taken me a while to review this visit to Mudbrick. Partly because I've had really positive experiences before, but also because I really don't delight in giving negative reviews, especially in this financial environment coming out of 2020. This visit to Mudbrick sadly...wasn't the usual standard. When you're spending this kind of money ($500+) on a 3 person dinner including $50 mains, the food really needs to be excellent...it just wasn't. We just felt completely ripped off. The bad first, some examples ...imagine 3 or 4 tiny slivers of meat,no bigger than your thumb, meant to be carpaccio with some flavoring on a plate...that's your very expensive entree...a steak without any crust or caramelisation, grey and soft in pallor and cooked nowhere near what was requested, limp vegetables and some sauces on a plate...that was two of the $50 mains. A seafood entree, assiette, with shaved octopus that had absolutely zero flavor almost like it had been washed off and an odd little creamy paste that looked like it might have been intended to be salmon (but it had no flavor whatsoever) topped with salmon caviar. The dessert was hit & miss...some lovely parts to the deconstructed Pina colada theme, but then other flavors that just threw everything off. The wine matches were average. The good...our table location was fab and our waiter was a good guy who seemed to care, funny, he genuinely seemed to enjoy the service industry. We gave him a tip just for his service. I'm so sorry Mudbrick but what happened that night? Was everyone in the kitchen still hungover from the NY event? We can't recommend this time around. It was just too pricey for what we actually received!More

What an amazing setting and a lovely way to spend our last night on Waiheke and my wife’s birthday. We had a delightful evening, but it could have been so much more. Based on its reputation we both expected more, its all in the attention...to detail! The oysters were nowhere near the standard of the Oyster Inn and the Cheese board just lacked everything!More

What a wonderful evening we had last night! The service was impeccable, Our waiter Jack was both very knowledgeable and friendly and many of the staff seemed aware that it was a very important day for us, and made us feel “extra special”! Our only...slight disappointment was that we would have liked to have seen a slightly wider menu, perhaps 4 mains rather than 3, for example. Perhaps being older our tastes are more conservative. Our sincere thanks to those at Mudbrick who contributed to our very memorable evening.More

Had a late lunch here after doing the wine tasting. The wines were not our favourite but could’ve been as it was straight after Jurassic Ridge which were exceptional. The lunch was fine, very good service, nothing outstanding but very nice. Great views and a...lovely rooftop bar.More

We visited as a group of 4 adults and 1 child on Christmas day, the setting, views, food, service and drinks were exceptional. Would 100% recommend to anyone. We enjoyed our meal and then went and sat up on the roof bar, staff were great,...especially given it was Xmas day.More

Stunning venue and outlook, service was great and food was well executed but a little boring (very 'classic' offerings) and in some cases there was too much going on/ the 'hero' of the dish was overwhelmed (e.g. fish). Tonka bean cappuccino was by far the...most interesting dish we had and our favourite. Would come again but might opt for the bistro option next time. Still a great experience and would recommend to others!More

We had the most wonderful dinner there at the beginning of our holiday and enjoyed it so much that we went back within a week. The setting is beautiful, the food is fantastic and the service is great, very attentive. Also their wines are next...level - I've liked ALL of them, while often it's hit and miss at other wineries.More

Definitely no dress code, but it is a fairly smart venue. During summer you will see plenty of people around the venue wearing shorts, tee shirts and jandals, but if you are dining in the fine dining restaurant you may feel... More
